czistle. Mr. Chiasson. of Prince Ed-
wsrl Island, a middle aged, good loos-
ing Frenchman, professed to love Mrs.
Elizabeth `Walls, of Chatham. She
reclprocated his affection. She was
somewhat older than he. far from beau-
tiful,butshe had some money. The
fond lover soon requested and se-t
cured a loan from his devoted
fitncec. Subsequently, when threa-
ened by cr<ilito;s,he transferred his
real etsate in Tignish to her, getting
$1,500 in cash and notes for $4,000 The
deeds were not recorded, and, at his 1'.-
quest, were returned to him, and are
still in his possession, hut the buildings
and the property have been burned,
and Mrs. Walls died. and Mr, Chiasson
sues for the $4,000. The de-
fence in the case is that the sale of
*he property to Mrs Wal s was nota
bout-fide transaction, but merely to
prevent Uhiassous crtditors from
swooping down on him. The love let-
ters that passed between the lovely
pair have been reid in court, to the
delight of a large audicnie. G. F.

Thursday morning. Earnscliffe has
lost one of her p'i‘o1r.in'ent young men.
Hehad been residing at River Print,
R I., for a few years. but about a year
ago, his ht al h bi-gan to tail and he re-
turned to his native province hoping
that with a lew months’ rest. he would _
regain strength, and for a time it ap-
peared that his hopes were to be rea-
lized. Butabout two mouths ago he
began to fail and in spite of all that
skilled physicians, and good nursing
could do he passed away on the 15th
inst. Mr. Young always took a promi-
nent part in everything that. tended to-
ward the improvement of Society. He
twas a promineutmember of Cherry
Valley Lodge, I O. G_. T.. where his
presence and influence will be greatly
missed. He also held Vice President
of the E. D. C. and occupied a seat on _
the Executive of the same institution,
place, except his oivn ho`me`will his
absence be so much felt. The tuneral
on Friday afternoon, and the esteem in
which the deceased was held was shown
by the large number ol people who fol-
lowed his remains to their last resting
place in _Cherry Valley. Deceased was
a son of Mr.John P. Young.

Curdy says: Lord and Lady Aberdeen
while residents of Ntw Richmond took
‘a lively interest in the Presbyterian
church in that place. When in the
village they regularly attended the
church services regardless of the weath-
er conditioiis, thus setting a good ex-
ample to “fair weather and other chrs-
tians.” On the Sunday before his
departure from New Richmond H s
Excellency was invited to make a brief
address at the close of the ser-
vice. He said that her excellently* and
himself had had some conversation with
a few ot the people and that, it the cou-
gregaiion would care to accept of it he
would be glad to defray for six months
the expense of maintaining a nurse
ot the Victorian order in New Rich-
mond. He did this thinking it an a'p-
propriate way to express a sense of his
appreciation of the people of New Rich-
mond. 'He thought a nurse thus em-
ployed would not only,do a permanent
good while with the _people bu.i af-
ter her departure the good effects of her
stay would be noticeable in the added
kilwledge of the best treatment of the _lt

an invitation which Dr. Thornton quick-‘
