Election NEW YORK, Nov. 9 -(APi - Tlie stock market advanced last week in an atmosphere of Re- publican jubilation over General Eisenlioivers election. The rise encouraged heavy vol- ume with the day after the elect- ion topping the 2,000,000-mark for the first time in more than a year. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks gained 51.30 on the week and closed at 55107.50. Using the AP average as a yard- stick, the stock market in the last 2 1-2 weeks has regained 62 per cent of the entire reaction the market suffered in the last three months. With only four days of trading, volume hit a total of 8,632,000 shares-a daily average of 1,058,- 000 shares. The stock market on the election- eve Monday made a moderate ad- vance with heavy volume. Over-election-day orders poured into brokers houses. and when the gong sounded the opening of busineu Wednesday there was a buying rush that snowed under the ticker reporting system for a brief time. Prices zoomed up in the first half hour, then worked lowerunder persistent profit-taking. Profit- taking was absorbed, but unusual weakness in the railroads gave the market a mixed look at the close. Volume came to 2,030,000 shares, the highest since Oct. 23, 1951. Tlie advance got rolling again on Thursday with railroads strong. and continued on Friday. Socoiiy-vacuum was the week's most active stock exchange issue up 1 at 35 with 75,100 shares trad- ed. It was followed by General Motors up 2 5-8 at 62 3-8. Avco Mfg. up 1-4 at 7 5-8. They are not sure whether the government plans to take over their machinery or how much will be paid for it, if the government does purchase the farm implements. District Farmers' Association No. 6, which represents farmers in the two counties. is protesting (1) the fact that the farmers have to mov and (2) the manner in which the ederal Government is hand- ling the entire operation. About 55,000,000 has been ear- marked for acquiring the land for the camp, but Kenneth Green. president of the Association, says: "We have figured it out, and feel that the government would need about 321,000,000 merely to pur- chase the land. Mr. Racine made public his re- port on an investigation into the fund's Ontadlo operations. The in- quiry was ordered in April, 1951, by Judge T. H. Barton of Toronto.
