C O ‘4‘ O O The terms of reference are to advise the minister on matters pertaining Lo Natural Areas on P.E.I. The committee is concerned primarily with long range policy planning rather than going from one immediate crisis to another. One of the priorities will be to develop a strategy for the implementation of the Princelfiward Island section of the International Biological Program report. Thecpmmittee will set up objectives and management proposals for nature reserves and will initiate research where necessary. - Diane Griffin New Haven Natural History Society Summer Outings We had a very successful series of field trips for the summer of 1974. We have a full schedule planned for 1975, to new and different places on P.E.I., as well as revisiting the old favorites. For all field trips, meet at 10:00 A.M. at the Y.M.C.A. corner in Charlottetown. This is the only announcement of the trips, so save the list for reference over the summer. Eleven cooperators from P.E.I. submitted 158 cards, the highest number received from P.E.I. since 1968. Total cards received from Prince Edward Island — 1974 159 Since its inception in 1960, the Maritimes Nest Records Scheme has assembled 16,426 nest record cards. Provincially, totals for the 15-year period are as follows: New Brunswick — 8,045, Nova Scotia — 6,728, and Prince Edward Island - 1,653. During 1974 the Scheme received 752 cards from 61 co-operators. An additional 33 cards were submitted for earlier years. The Scheme has amassed over 1,000 cards for three species; American Robin, Barn Swallow, and Common Grackle; over 500 cards for Red- winged Blackbird and Starling;and over 200 cards each for fifteen other species. During the year five researchers borrowed cards of 13 species in addition to theCanadian Wildlife Service use of all data on sea bird colonies.
