The yield of gold in Victoria, Australia, for 1888, is ascertained from returns fur- nished by the Mint Customs Department, and Banks, was 636,200 ozs., or 24,783 ozs. more than in 1887. The yield is considered very satisfactory, especially in view of the opinion which obtained to a large extent during the few previous years chat the gold-mining returns were falling off all round.
