Sir Hector Langevia received an intima- tion from his medical adviser that Sir John’s condition was so serious that he was not expected to last through the night. Hemorrhage of the brain had taken place and Sic John was uncoconscious. The House immediately adjourned. The excitement in the city is intense. Large crowds gather at every public place. The French have seized St. George’s Bay, Newfoundland, and taken forcible territorial possession, forbidding the Newfoundland tishermen to fish, They have taken up local fishermens nets, secines and traps, and put them ashore. The French admiral said that the waters of the Bay of St. George belong solely to France and he would allow no trattic between the American and local fisheries. A collision is believed to be inevitable. Loxpox, May 30. Ministerialists here do not consider the Newfoundland difficulty by any means settled, though they admit that the dispute between the home government and the colony has been temporarily closed, — Schooner Seized. Orrawa, May 30. The American schooner J. N. Hop- kins has been seized by the steamer La Canadian for fishing in Fox Bay, Anticosti. The J. N. Hopkins is & three masted scheoner, of one hundred and seventy-nine tons and has seven hundred barrels of herring on board. She was taken to Gaspe. Gladstonian Victory. Lonpon, May 30. The election of a member for No rth Buckinghamshire, in place of Capt. Verney, who was expelled on account of bad morals, has resulted in a victory for the Gladstonian candidate, Mr. Leon, a Jew.
