P. Richards, was surprised to see a hen fly down from a large tree. On looking up the tree he saw something mysterious about seventeen feet from the ground, and on ascending found a nest in which were six large hen eggs. The most destructive hailstorm ever known in Minnesota, passed over St. Paul on the afternoon of the Ist inst. The hopes entertained that the freshet had reached its greatest height were dis- pelled this morning when the water was found to have risen a good deal last night and to be still rising. There is sufhcient gas made for to-night, but to- morrow night darkness threatens the city. O'Brien's Reception, jNew York, May 10. O’Brien, the Irish editor, was taken from the steamer Umbria which was lying outside the harbor, late last night, by the reception committee and brought to the city inatug.
