From than on until about 1924 Mr. Boutiller continued tralnln horses for vari- ous parties. His first patron was R. H. Other patrons were the late G. Holsey Hooper. the late R. A. Corbett. Halifax, and Dr. F. R. Little, Halifax. As a developer of colt speed Wc do not know of anyone 1n the Marltimes who could equal him. Perhaps his most notable achieve- nlent in this line was the training and racing of the stallion Baring, a product of the Allen Farm that he made into a Maritime cham- pion and sold for Mr. Edwards t0 Walter R. Cox for $5,000. Baring won two $5,000 stakes in Maine and also won on the Grand Cir- cult. A colt by Baring named Brage. became successively two- year-old, tliree-year-old and four- year-old Maritime champion and on July 29th, 1920, won the first heat in the Free For All Trot at Fredericton, N. B., in 21115-8 new Maritime trotting record. In the next two heats Hill Sharon (sold that fall for $25,000) lowered the record to 2.1111 and won tile race. In common with thousands or others we record our sincere sorrow at the departure o! one of our favorite horsemen friends. With the above we conclude out review of the sport which we hlivl loved so well for so many years, There are no doubt many thlngl we could have touched on at greater length and many things we should have written about that we have overlooked. If there are errors we regret them. If we have missed anybody we beg to be excused u the task of this com- pilation ic getting to be quite strenuous one. For our part i has been a pleasure m write abou our favorite sport in Down the Back Stretch and in tile conclud- lng week of the year submit this report which, imperfect as it is, will help to give in retrospect the happenings of our most exciting race season. Once again we are glad to pay tribute to the splendid publicity given our sport in the Halifax Herald by Frank Power, son of our esteemed friend the late James vV Power, and to Don MacLeod o North Sydney, who has written very valuable publicity in Capo Ercton and who lids helped u; with compilations of Cape Brawn races. We are also indebted to The Canadian Sportsman, TllSDll-I burg, Ontar o, for the large amount of space devoted to lvfaritimc rac- iing. We are glad to welcome .2114 (congratulate a new addition to the ranks of Maritime harness ilOTS; sports writers in the person o Ralph Cameron, whose very redd- able comments in "The Feed Box" appear on Wednesday afternoons the Charlottetown Patriot. We extend our sincere thanks to the race secretaries who took the who supplied us with informatiin which made possible our activities during the year. In closing there is just these last few words we would like to say and that, is that our harness horse sport is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds and will eon- tlnue to do as long as we furnish the public with honest-to-goodness racing and keep up a high stand- ord of sportsmanship. Everyone connected with it, owner, driver, groom. spectator, or race promoter who loves the game will. we arc sure. endorse these sentiments.
