(¢AP)— Luis Rodriguez, unbeaten Cuban welterweight, ruled a 2-1 favorite Tuesday to defeat Garnet (Sugar) Hart—in—their 10-round bout at Miami Beach Auditorium tonight. The fight will be televised over the ABC network starting at 11 p.m. AST. The bout is of great importance to both men, in that the winner almost certainly will be rated top challenger to champion Don Jor- dan, who has been ordered to de- fend his crown in January. Promoter Chris Dundee said he} twice has offered Jordan's man- ager, Don Knesseth, $50,000 to fight the winner of tonight's fight, but had received no reply. THE RATINGS “Rodriguez is rated the No. 2 challenger and Hart No. 3,”’ Dun- dee said. “Charley Scott is rated No. 1, but Scott was defeated by Benny Paret, which makes the Rodriguez-Hart fight all the more important. “Tony Maceroni, National Box- ing Association president, has in- formed me that Jordan must meet one of the top four chal- lengers, the No. 4 man being Ru- dell Stitch.” i Rodriguez already has beaten Stitch, as well as the rugged Isaac Logart, and with Scott on the recently-iefeated list Rodri- 358 Dial 9912 Rodriguez, Hart Tangle Tonight Samta paid special attention to > ASK SANTA FOR TREATS =~ match with his bag of goodies. | Ralph ‘Farmer’ Josey of the Royals and Joe Coyle (eft) two ‘wee’ fellows, defencemen ' (right) of the Penguins, pre- Ward got his mitt on but couldn’t hold. ‘ For the most part it was fast game but on a couple occasions in the periods to be going- in The third period saw Penguin PENGUINS HELPLESS At one time in the final stanza the Royals were two players short with Willie Dunn and Bert Steele doing time in the sin bin but the Perfectionists-. were unable — to mount an attack, every attempt started tide for second in the le Referees Jack ‘Spy’ Ready and Walter Lawlor called a total of 14 penalties with the Royals picking eight.
