I Hospital on February 'lth of Wal- fcr Wakalln at the age of in years. Although in ill health for the past aevenl months he performed his daily tasks efficiently and cheerfully. until the latter part of November when he was advised by his doctor to take a rest. His con- dition gradually became worse and on December l'1th he entered the P E. I. vl-Ioapital for treatment. where it was found necesaa y to perform a major operation. which operation was performed on Jan- uary 8th at the Provincial Sana- torium. He recovered sufficiently to be removed to the P. E. I. Hos- pital, where he patiently and un- compiainingly bore his suffering, and where no means were spared by the medical and nursing staffs to alleviate his pain. until an the above mentioned date he quietly passed away. waiter was widely and favorably known throughout the Province, having operated a garage prior to his employment as City mechanic Of a congenial and pleasant dia- positio . he was a general favorite with all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was born in Charlottetown. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wakelin, by whom he is survived. He is also survived by his sorrow- ing wife. the former Margaret Emma Keir of South Granville, who was his constant companion during his trying illness, and who will ever cherish the memory of a true and loving husband; and five brothers. namely: Qecii. Stanley. Lloyd. George and Everett. . The funeral. which was very largely attended. was held from his late residence, 8'7 Ambrose Street. Friday. February 9th. Services were conducted by Rev. G. C. Webster who spoke comforting words to the bereaved, taking as his text. "God is our Refuge and Strength." Hymn selections were. "Asleep in Jesus," and "Oh. Love That Will Not Let Me Go." For more than 25 years. Major l-iiscott had served as a Field Of- ficer in the ranks of the Salvation Army. commanding many corps in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Her work was highly praised by those in authority and many peo- ple remember her with deep grai- itude for the spiritual and mater- ial help she so freely administer- d Her last command was in New Glasgow. Nova Scotia. from which she entered into honorable retire- ment. For the last few months she lived with her sister at Bresdai- bane and, while for from well. her sudden severe illness and death was a shock to all. The funeral service was con- ducted by Major E. Hutchinson of the Chaniottctown Citadel Corps. Stanley Bridge United Church. The Major paid tribute to the influence and effective service of the de- ceased whom he had' known for many years. Mrs. Major Hutchin- son also spoke words 0-! apprecia- tion of Major Hi.scoi.t's service, and also read telegrams from the Territorial leader for Canada. Commissioner C. Bough: Lt. Col- onel W. During the short service in the home of her brother. James His- cott. Major and Mrs. Hutchinson sang the favorite h-ymn of the de- parted. ”The Old Rugged Cross" and later during the se vice in the church sang. "The Christians Goodnigiht." The Major oke of the qualif- SP ications required to enter into the rest prepared for God's people and assured all present. if they follow- ed the path of duty as faithfully as the deceased had done during the years out her eartihly pilgrim- age. there was no doubt but that -all wou-id be accepted by God. Prayer was offered by Reverend Green. After the church service the re- mains were taken to the cemetery at Cavendish where the committal service was read by Major Hutch- inson. who was assisted by Rev. Gough. The service was deeply impressive as the frien s and -mourners song around th open grave. "in the Sweet Eye and Eye." The Major leaves to mourn four brothers. James E.
