My name is BrendOn J. Bulger;;falJUnior'Business AdminiStratiOn student running for the position of'Treasurer in the Student Union elections on March l7. ‘ During the past three years I have been actively involved in student organizations both union and noannion.‘ My involvement in the Student Union included Yearbook Editor l977-l978, Senator l978-1980, and Constitution ‘Committee Member 1978.. My non-union involvement includes Senate Parking and Traffic Committee l978-l979; Blanchard Hall House Committee l977-l980, and Blanchard Hall House President 1978-80. .One of the major issues that has come before cOuncil in the past two'. years is the constitutional amendments. Students haVe the ri{.. to_expect their union to be run in accordance with an organized system, and‘our constitutionm provides this. I have been deeply involved with ‘TREASURER vboth union and non-union, student input into the financial aspects of the union. - With my past involvement in student organizations I have the experience and the ability to perform the duties of Treasurer and if elected wil represent the students of UPEI to the beSt of my ability. Thank ' you for your Support on a. My name is John McAleer and I am running for the position of Treasurer of the Student Union. I am a full time day student from Charlottetown in my third year of business. ’ If I were asked the ques— v tion what made you decide to run for S.U. Treasurer, basically I would have two responses: 1. to get a taste of business frtnlthe practical side of things, but more importantly, my second response would sound like: 2. I was an apathetic ignorant student who was “paying $55.00 in Student =Union fees and didn't have 'a clue of where it was going or how it was being spent. You are probably saying this is a fine guy to have running as Treasurer. He doesn't have a clue of what is going on-, However, how can you know What is going on if you're not involved Vorvinterested. If{elected, I would act Wbuld like to see closer £ties between the S.U. an thefiuniversity. ‘yI would look forwardito]',%: working with the new camps ' troller. One of the Gomo- troller's main jobs is ’I have‘i" worked in numerous clubs and lounges, and amiaware-f. of what is required in 3" runnln".g and managing a: SucceSSful bar. One of the big problems faced by S.U. revenue is the majority of it goes i towards the covering @fafiixyu fixed expenses for e.g. UPEI SUN, MARCH l3, l980, PAGE 7 Ill-IIIIIIIII-IIll-llllllll[IILIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-ll 7‘ fuel and salaries.” This coupled with declining enrollment (frtuiwhich we cbtain most of our revenue) creates a diffi- cult situation. If I were elected Treasurer, I would be interested in working with the new executive in finding ways to cut back on some of these fixed expenses. .-My three main proposals are: - l. to investigate the possibility of using The Barn during the Sunneu'nmnths, so as to generate extra revenue. 2. to look into the idea of alternative energy sources for The Barn. 3. to redesign the whole concept of Pig N Whistle so as to make it an asset to the S.U. as opposed to a liability. As I am not part of any clique within the university I feel I can offer a fresh and objective approach to the job of Treasurer. If yOu have taken the time to read this article, I hope you will take the time to vote on March 17th. Thank you. My name is Beecher Gillis and I am running for the position of Treasurer of the Student Union. I am a third year Business Administration student majoring in Accounting. This background, in conjunc- tion with my Sumner job for the past three years, has l,enabled me to gain experi- ence-in maintaining accurate. daily sales records and cash control. I feel this experience would be'extre+ mely beneficial to the office of Treasurer. As well, my connmnity’involve— ment has given me the ‘ opportunity‘to’cotordinate other aCtivities including .Churchrfunctions.’ I am interested in the ‘. position, and I feel that I can represent the student body through acquaintances . 51‘...
