In a goodly measure it. was also due to his own gentle, kindly. neighborly and amiable spirit. for he was loved and esteemed by all who had the privilege of his in- tlmabe acquaintance. But one factor which drew the public dur- ing a very busy season was the tragic circumstances attending his death. At the early age of 46, ap- parently in the pink of health until just. a month before his death, and even then not, regard- ed as being seriously afflicted, it was about a week before his death that any alarming symptoms de- veloped. In the _ Charlottetown Hospital his condition became ser- lous and when he went on to Montreal the worst fears were realized. A tumor had developed on the brain causing death al- though an operation was perform- ed A further circumstance that in- vited the sympathy of the public was the faot that his young wife was being left a widow in the fourth year of her married life, physically rather frail, and with a 2 1-2 year old child in her arms. Suddenly, swiftly, unexpectedly, she was bereft oi’ the comrade whom she had expected to be a life-long partner in the joys and sorrows of family life. There goes out to her the interest and friend- ly concern of all who knew either or both of them. _ Still further, he was the first of a family of eight to be called out of the active affairs of this earth- ly existence, and leaves an aged mother in the 83rd year of her pilgrimage.
