THE Dai:LY EXAMINER, CHARLOTTETOWN, OSTOBER 6 1898 EF ee OTe THE BROWN W ND OF CONNAUGHT. The brown wind of Connaught Across the bogiand blown (The brown w ind of Connaught) Turns my boart to a stone, Por it cries my name at twilight And cries it at the noon— “Oh, Mairgread Ban! Oh, Mairgread Ban!"’ Just like a fairy tune. The brown wind of Connaught, When Dermot came to woo (The brown wind ef Connaught), It heard his whiapers, too, And while my wheel goes whirring It taps on my window pane Till I open wide te the dead outside And the sea sales misty rain. The brown wind of Connaught With women wailed one day (The brown wind of Cognaught) For a wreck in Galway bay, And many the dark faced fishers That gathered their nets in fear, 8 But one sank straight to the ghostly gate, And be was my Dermot dear. f —Sban Van Vocbt. Individual Odors. ' Every human being has a specific odor of his own, according to A. Bethe in the Archiv der Gesammten Physiolo- gie, by which he can be recognized not merely by dogs but by persons with sen- sitive organs of smell. Thecase is men- | tioned of a man who blindfolded could pick out each individual in a company ef 20 by his odor The smell is not born with ns, but develops gradually till the age of puber- ty, after which it remains unchanged. Not more than a thousand years ago there came to one of the Brooklyn parishes a young rector who had been reared under the traditions of the very highest of high churches. Among these traditions was that which holds that the clergymen of all other denominations are without authority, and therefore not worthy to be called ministers of the Gospel. One evening at @ social gathering he was introduced to one of the Baptist clergymen vf the City of Churches, Taking the Bap- tist by the hand the young rector, with yauch flourish and ostentation, said : “Mr. , Lam glad to shake hands with you as a gentleman, though I cannot admit that you are a clergyman.” ‘And I,” said the other, quietly, ‘‘am glad to shake hands with you as a clergy- man, though I cannot admit that you are a gentleman.” i Rev. Smallest Printing Press, A firm on Wall street, New York, has in operation and on exhibition what is probably the smallest working printing press in the world. It is an interchangeable cylinder and prints from a continuous roll with a cut-off. It is but twelve and one-half inches in length, and seven and one-half inches in height. Its width in the widest part is less than seven inches. In the office where it is in use it has been necessary to furnish brokers and others with a daily letter of financial news. Until the invention of this miniature press, the service was performed by the manifold system. Nine manifolders, each working very rapidly, were required to perform the service. With this little lightning press, after the types are set, two hundred copies per minute of any circular can be printed. With the dynamo machine lately attached it has printed as high as seven hundred copies per minute.—Ex- change. And Billy is Objecting, Bloobumper—Benny, what's all that recket at the Barlows’?
