G0llD0li ALLEY Q _ more rapidly on an average than ever be- fore. Some twenty-dve years ago only a small percentage of our people lived in the cities. To-day it is estimated that in the United States thirty three per cent of the entire population live in the towns and cities of the land. The great cities of the old world are still growing while our western towns are building up rapidly. It is a fact that it is not always the best class of citizens that .' pour into our cities but generally we iind that quite a number of them are men and boys of shady doings and questionable records. But not only do this class of persons, gravitate to the centers, but also a great number of young men from the farming districts are attracted by the crowds and the opportunites for employment. Men . from every land, representing every race color, and creed are there. This cosmopo- litan character of the inhabitants of our towns and cities make any form of organ- ized moral and religious work difficult. The necessity for some dednite effort for this great changing class would be readily apparent. Vice and crime rage rampant wherever, large numbers of men are found together. In the face of these facts the question ie asked how are those men and especially the young men to be reached with elevat- ing and religious influences. The question has found its answer more satisfactorily to-day,we think,in the organ ization known as the Young Men's Chris- tian Association, than in any other move- ment. This organization aims to do work for young men by young men. As most of our readers are aware its object is to de- velop a symmetrical Christian manhood. It aims to develop the physical, intellectual and spiritual. It is internominational in character and performs a work that must always be auxiliary to the Christan Church ' Charlottetown are anxious that ourAssoci 3 ,ggxi __~; __ --‘~’_ _Q cr re ' ._ __ _ . - ' rs At present many of the citizens of U if ' > ~-- » e __ _K -`-._._.~-__-__~ was or _,, ' , Twist” chewing _is Still per »-$ t lm “tl” Rename -News THE Gnanmsiv joins, with all those 3 p . - Yr _ L seigkiiig at all timds to further the l>€S_1i5 who have the best interests of our rising l ‘“t°r°"t° of the people’ and recogmze young manhood at heart, in the hope that therefore as The Peoples. gaper, our Y.M.C.A. may be freed from its finan- _ y ¢ ,. _ eomesnont Published at its ofiices New Prowse cial embarrassment and from this time of Holy Ghost. ll without warm wraps aroundlyourshoul- 'theSt. Vincent de Paul ` i ' fol B1 1;, _\’ th ~'d Pot Office, at the - fr 5 tht g th, Professing Christians were advised to der; and bm;,g1;,_ 1 having been found guilty ona lofi-tiiig rafiles, iaiiyaablebin ad\-ancc:- forward go on Om S reng 0 S reng claim this rock-like nature.
