He expressed muc pleasure at ing d to speak on the subject and roceed- ed in a. clear way to out ine the agricultural problems that face the farmer today, when agriculture fills a more important part in the world than ever before in its his- tor . The speaker of the evening, Dr. Mark A. Dowber. executive secre- tary of Home Mission Councils of‘ North America spoke on rural life. Dr. Dowber said that there is no civilization in the city that has shown any indication of possessing sustaining qualities. The future of democracy rests with for the future of democracy ho took uness the churches proper stand. The future of democracy is not to be found in the city. The rural communities must recreate a com- munlty that has the basis of de- mocracy. for from the rural com- munities democracy found its orig- in. Dr, Dowber ap ealcd to the churches to take the r proper stand and should they do so then com- munism and its allied branches would find out where the allegi- ance of the people rested. Rural people have forgotten to co-oper- ate, they must get together and solve their own problems. and our rural communities should be re- built for the benefit of their boys who will come back to them. Dr. Dowber possessed a fund of good humor and at different points re- iated various humorous incidents to illustrate his remarks.
