'l`his was tloiie_and__f_oi° _six _vcaix-z they paid a _yearly dividend of 6 percent. and in 1017 this was 'in- creased to 7 percent. Besides doing this they added new buildings and much new mzicliinery. In the fall of 1916 they purchased the entire wharf propcrt_v of The Cliarlottetown Steam Navigation Company 'togehhei' -with all buildings so that today they' own one of the best equipped plants of its kind in thc Maritime Provinces and a site unequalled anywhere. Theex- tcnsion oi' the business seven years ago has proven wise and profitabl_e.____ One of thc money making features of the business has been the manu- facture oi' the famous Imperial gasoline engine. Bruce Stewart as a machi- nist and Andrew McNair as an engineer were among the best in their pro# fcssion and when they decided to manufacture an engine they also decided it should be the best that they knew how to build. That they have"s`ti'6ce`é3 ded is shown by the steadily increasing demand until today the company lias orders for double as many engines as they can build with their present. facilities. They have also an increasing demand for very large eng_ines_ as au.\;ili-ary power for vessels and in order to take care of all' this business »--which is otfer_e_d.it.has__been__;£ound_neces§;1ufy to put up a new machineshop and install considerable modern`m‘i11chiner`y‘f which will very materially _re- _lu_c_e the cost of production and ensure larger net earnings for the share- io ers. -1 This is the purpose for which thc $50,000.00 new capital is required. The management of the business will be the same that has built it up from its small beginning twenty-two years ago to its immense propoi‘tions of to- day. It will still be a Bruce Stewart and Andrew McNair run business but to this has been added the financial knowledge of Frank R. Heartz of Char- lottetown, Senator John McLean of Souris and C. L. McKay the efficient Sec- retary of the company. In the shops are young and progressive heads in charge of the different departments. The selling en'd is looked after by Frank Stewart who has done much to develop _the business. _ This is the only plant of its kind in the Province and its future is as- sured. It has more business today than it can handle and the after the war period is bound to be one of construction, especially in metals. I An investment in this company, however large or small, must prove a profitable one as aside from its steady dividends the shares should increase in value very considerably. Here is a Prince ' Edward Island business which has been success- ful. Lei. us make it moref so by eiilarging it.
