Theschool population has more than
doubled in the last I5 years. Horton
‘qdemy was founded in 1828. It was I
ylmarlly instituted for the training of
young men for the ministry. In Nova
Sgctia the Baptists were tabooed so to
gpeak. There was an Institute at
Widneor but no one could go there with-
out subscribing to the tenets of the
Church of England. To obiviate this
difhculty Horton Academy was insti-
tuted. It now furnishes three coursesi
the scientiilc, the business course and the
Manual Training couise. Some claims
that only such subjects as tend to de~
velop alone the lines of culture should :be
taught, others claim that only the useful
cnly those subjects which ilt a boy for
earning his bread and butter should re-
ceive attention. A happy mediumbe-
tween th<se two opposite should be
aimed at. A manual training course I
would obviate the diiiicnlty to a great
degree. Let every boy be taught here to
work with his hands and he will eeme to
think there is nothing undigniiled in
labor.

Mr. DeWolf on rising expressed his
regret that he was called upon to speak
before he got into harness, though he had
theoretically at leastagraspof the work
he had undertaken. His answer to the
question would be most unhesitatingly

yes, the denomination needs Acadia
Seminary asthetlcally socially and re-
ligiously. Our girls should be educated
because woman makes the home and
iniiuence should be given to what
beautiful and great and good in the
highest sense.

Mr. Freeman contended that untila
man loses interest in Christian life he can-
not lose interest in Christian Education,
Education is everywhere tributaryto life.
Life is the response of a man’s being to
the universe about him and a God above
him. Education begins with life. A man l
lives only in the highest truest sense as he
learns to understand God. Herein lies the
argrument for Christian Education. The

The teaching of the Public Schools of our
teachers,we are laborers together,we may
work at diiferent angles but we are all
at work on one building.

the success of the meeting. o
