SPECIAL TRAIN.-Besides the spe- cial engine which went out from Char- lottetown to the relief of the disabled Murray Harbour train, a special left Charlottetown last night at 10.10 o’clock for the west. '1‘his train was sent to bring down to Charlottetown for treatment at thc Hospital here, Dr. Gillis, of’ St. Louis, who is serious- ly ill. Dr. Dorsey, ,of the city, was summoned to attend to him, and up- on his advice the patient was remov- ed to the Charlottetown Hospital, He was taken to Sulrlmcrsldc by the or- dinary train lying at Tlgnlsh, and at the special which came up from Char- lottetown. This train returned to the city with the sick man, reaching Char- lottetown about half-past three o‘clock this morning. THE HARVEST.-Prince Edward '-sland has had a very heavy Cro; of hay and is at present harvesting one of the biggest crops of oats that have been. had fpr several vycans_ The prices of both hay and oats are apt to be very high and farntcrs may be tempted to murkct nmrc of thes( than would he to the advantage of tin Province." They should bear in mlm- that all classes of live stock will als: be very high and that thcrc will pro bably be as much to be made in feed ing their crops on the farm as there has been in past years. The U. S Department of Agriculture gives tht average prices paid to the producerf of live stock on August- 15, through- out the llnited States as follows? hogs $8.11 per 100,lbs live weight. beef cattle, $6.47; `lambs,$6.23; milcb cows $60.70 each and horses $135.2( each. This is an increase in all, except in the case of horses, of about 12 per cent over last year'e prices and can hardly well be considered as war prices. in the next few months there will no doubt be a big advance. and the farmers would do well to con- sider the feeding of their crops nt home and so conserving the fertility of the soil. .___ STUDENTS SOCIAL.-At the Y.M_ C. The shower was somewhat unex- 'pected and caught the maiority of pedestrians unprepared. It hailed and rained intermittently lor about an hour and a half. and as there was no immediate prospect of a clear sky at _1Z.30. Principal Johnson. of West Kent School. decided that he would keep the scholars in until one o‘clock and thou dismiss school for the day. This was accordingly done. Prince Street and Queen Square schools, how- ever, remained open as usual until closing time, 3 p.m. ~__. FOX NOTES.-The delivery of fox- es on options continues' steadily and the indications are strong that, in spite of the \var depression, fox com- panies will pay the expected dividends without much delay. Yesterday delive- ry was taken of 5 pairs of silver black pups for the _Perfect _Fo_x__CcL,___th§_ stock of which has been largely over- subscribed. Three pairs were taken from Fur Farms,-Limited, one pair from James Tuplirl. Black Banks, and one pair from Frank Tuplin, Liewelyn_ Yesterday also delivery was taken of four pairs of silver blacks on behalf of the Wyldcn Black Fox Co., which has been organized in New Glasgow, N. S., but is being ranched on this Is- land. The directors of the company were in the city yesterday in connec- tion therewith. 3 pairs of pups were obtained from the Murray Harbour Fox Company’s ranch at Murray Harbour, while the other pair were taken from the Upton Ranch. Mr. Jordan, lteep- er of the Murray Harbour For ranch. was in the city yesterday for the pur- pose of taking delivery of the pair of foxes front the Upton ranch for the Wyldcn Company. Messrs. \v. n. Prowse and W. 1.. Jordan, directors of the Bonanza Fox Co., have taken delivery of a very handsome pair of this spring's silver black fox pups from the Barker Silver Fox Company‘s ranch at Summerside, the foxes to be delivered at the Bonanza Company‘s ranch at Murray Harbour South, which has recently been completed. lt is learned regarding one of the compa- nies of which a big dividend is expect- ed, that of a prospective dividend of 110 per cent., the company has cash in hand to pay 60 per cent. right away. P.E. ISLAND LEADS.-The excel- lent and superior quality of Prlnco Edward lsland‘s dairy products has been boasted of-and pardoluibly-by Islanders time and again. and now it tins been proved beyond the slightest iucstlon. At tho St. John Exhibition island exhibits secured tho first prize ‘n nearly every instance. lu crcamcry butter the first prize was won by tho Dunstaffnnge Dairy Company, whose butter was the centre of envious ud- mlration and was perhaps, apart from its intrinsic merit, one of the nealest exhibits so far as preparation is con- cerned. Tile Dunstaffnage Company were also the most succesful exhibi- tors in regard to butter ln solids, taking first prize in competition with exhibitions from both St. John and Nova Scotia. The success of the pro- vince is most gratifying in the cheese exhibit, all of the prizes in each case being won by Island concerns, not- withstanding the fact that a large number of exhibits were on show from the other Maritime Provinces. The Emerald Dairying Company were first in coloured cheese and also flat cheese. and are to be congratulated on their splendid and- well-deserved success. Red Point and Park Corner were second and third, respectively. in both cases. Their exhibits, lt need hardly be said. were alsoyery good. The first prize for white cheese was won by Quebec, the island being second and third again. Thls'is a magnificent achievement on the part of Prince Edward island and should serve an unlimited purpose in ‘ inciting the farmers of the province to greater effort. "The Call of the'Tribe' was the leading picture, with a good moral. lt was un Indian story and showed the baneful consequence of cultivating nn intimacy that might result in an undesirable marriage. "Just Kids" was a comedy featuring some of the most popular juvenile actors. “The Disenchantment” was a good two-reel comedy, well acted. “No Greater Love" was n'Slf0\Il§ drama with a good plot; while “ The Gunmen of Plumas" was an exciting film. The programme wus altogether excellent. PEOPLE'S THEATRE.-Crowds of patrons of the l’eople's Theatre had to content themselves with standing- room for the first show last night. The programme of five reels wns nn excellent one, the feature, a two-reel picture, “The Power of Sight,” being one of the best feature films shown at _theV_People's house for a long time. It was the story of a moonshlner's son, who, tired of the outlaw life, went to the city. His rapid steps to success, his love affairs and his eievatlomto the ministry were followed by the eager hundreds who witnessed the silent drama. The " Kathleen " series was shown for the last tune. while the Comedy, “Calamity Anne," brought down the house. An up-to-date feature was a series of views of the European War movements. A slide which at once caught the throng was H_M.S. “ Drake," which has often called at this harbour. A musical act by Barnes and Callahan was a treat in itself- alone worth the price of admission. At the matinee this afternon the War slides will be shown, and no school child should miss them, as later developments will bo shown each week. ARMY _FIELD .FUND.-Thcrc. is every prospect that the quantity of oats which is required for the gift of Prince Edward island to the Mother country will be easily secured. Mr. T. C. James, Secretary of the Army Field Service Fund, states that the farmers throughout the country districts are expressing their wllingness and readi- ness to do all they possibly can to assist the committees in their efforts, and hc expects that the canvassers for oats, who \vlll begin their work on or about August 20, will encounter few difficulties. Mr. James has received letters, nccepting positions as re- ceivers ol' oats. front all of those whose nantes had been proposed at tho re'ccnt general meeting. With this probability in vlew_ when they appointed tho re- ceivers, tho Committee fixed the lust day on which oats may be delivered as November 20, thus allowing the farmers ample time in which to get together their contributions. Com- mencing on Monday the Rev. Dr. T. F. Fullerton will go through some of the country. districts addressing patriotic meetings. Dr Fuleirtoirs force and eloquence are proverbial, and the effect of his addresses next week should be considerable.
