Undergraduates in Hon- ours Chemistry, Biochemistry, and related areas. B. Each successful applicant will collaborate with a Centre faculty member on a research project and within the limits of availability, will have the oppor- tunity of choosing his/her area of research, supervisor, and campus. 2 Health and Welfare Canada: Indian and Inuit health careers: The objective of the Program is to encourage and support In- dian and Inuit participation in educational opportunities lead- ing to professional careers in the health field and provide a learn- ing environment designed to over- come many of the social and cul- tural barriers that currently in- hibit the Native student’s educa- tional achievement. There are five major areas of activity in the new-Medical Ser- vices Branch program: Bursaries/Scholarships avail- able on a limited basis to students pursuing health career studies at recognized post-secondary edu- cational institutions in Canada. Health Career Promotion: A strategy to include such things as career counselling, visits to health care and educational in- stitutions and seminars on health professions given by academics and health providers. Career Related Employment: The Medical Services Branch will provide orientation to health ca- reers and on-the-job training at its hospitals, nursing stations and health centres as part of or seper- ate from university or college cur- riculum. . Institutional Programs: The funds under this initiative could cover the cost of elders in resi- dence, daycare or cultural activ- ities, etc. in those institutions having numbers of Indian and Inuit students in health faculties and schools. Community Based Programs: funds may be provided to sup- port Indian and Inuit initiatives in professional health education. 3. Orville Erikson Memorial Scholarship Fund: The Fund consists of a 5- The Search for the Green member Board of Trustees who are responsible for the selec- tion of candidates who will re- ceive scholarships in any given year. The Canadian Wildlife Foundation receives, collects, and distributes applications to the OEMSF Trustees, who evaluate applications and submit their list of applications warrenting sup- port. Department of Agriculture: Prince Edward Island There exists a policy (Policy #1) called the Technician and Technologist Agricultural Train- ing Assistance Policy with the fol- lowing objectives: 1) To have individuals take technician and technologist agri- cultural training at a recognized post-secondary institution as a prelude to entering farming, agri- business or governmental occupa- tions; 2) To encourage farmers and their families to participate in correspondence courses relating to agriculture production and/or marketing from recognized post— secondary institutions; 3) To encourage young Is- landers to acquire practical farm- ing skills by completing training through the Maritime Farming Certificate Program. There are four modes of finan- cial assistance available: Plan “A”-—Tuition—N.S.A.C. : for each technician and technolo- gist student from PEI attending N.S.A.C. Plan “B”-Agricultural Col- leges other than N.S.A.C.— As- sistance only if there is no space available at N.S.A.C. does not of- fer the desired options. Plan “C”—Correspondance Courses: Reimbursement of tu- ition and book costs. Plan “D”—Maritime Certifi- IY provided. 6. Children of War Dead (Ed- ucation Assistance) Act A. Open B. You may be given assis- tance to undertake studies, in Canada, in approved universi- ties, colleges, or other schools of higher education as approved by the Department. You must com- mence studies within 15 months of your graduation from secondary school. If approved, you may re- ceive assistance up to and includ- ing the academic year in which you reach your thirtieth birthday. C. The current benefit pro- vided by the Department is $1500.00 per annum towards the tuition and monthly training al- lowance of $110.62. This program is designed to recog- nize scholastic achievement and to encourage further education in undergraduate studies at uni- versities, colleges, or other post- secondary institutions. Parents of applicants must have at least one year of credited Company service on the date of appli- cant’s registration at the post- secondary institution. An ap— - plication is required to have at- tained an average of at least 70%. C. Tuition and compulsory student fees of the university. 8. Harvey Moore Wildlife Fund Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded annually to any person(s) attend- ing the University of Prince Ed- ward Island and studying Biol- ogy or other suitable field of study there, and showing a spe- cial interest in wildlife conser- vation and aptitude for its pro- motion. The Trust Committee may consider practical projects which have been undertaken by a student or students, and it would seem desirable that reports or essays on practical projects or appropriate or related sub- jects should be a criteria for se- lection. This award was estab- lished in 1961 by The Prince Edward Island Wildlife Federa- tion (1977) with the sanction of The Prince Edward Island De- partment of Education. 9. Natural Sciences Engineer- ing Research Council of Canada: (NSERC) Applications and correspon- dence for NSERC scholarships and fellowships are available from Canadian universities or directly from NSERC. University tridetaradanis Student Research Awards: The objective of these awards is intended to stimulate the inter- est of undergraduate students in research by providing them with valuable experience in a univer- sity laboratory, and to encourage these students to undertake grad- uate studies. Applicants must be registered as full-time students in an eligible undergraduate pro- gram in the natural sciences or engineering. Awards are nor- mally tenable during the summer months with a maximum dura- tion of four consecutive months.
