OTTAWA, Aug. 3-’l‘he Maniwaki Indian, John Brsscoupe, who appear- ed in Hull district court lest week charged with stealing $350, and re- manded until yesterday, was found guilty and will receive sentence to- morrow. The arrest of Brascoupe may bring about the termination of a pretty little romance which has been car- ried on at the reserve at Maniwaki_ When the case came up last week Brascoupe asked for a postponement in order that he might get an Indian girl on the reserve to testify that she saw him pic-= up .the money from the ground. Tile postponement was granted but when the girl appeared she became so confused that her evidence was oi no benefit to the prisoner. The In- dian girl witness was to have been Brascoupe's squaw.'
