A T i l r ' _ L me WEI sm'fhmy’nec'l'wwrpage 9 m“ PARTY AND~PUB PLANNED SOCIETY Well, here we are once again gang. Guess this Will be our last column before Christmas. I guess the Education Society has once again sham the campus which society is the most involved and hardvorking. We were the only society‘ that had a skit in the very successful Student Union variety show. Not only did we provide one of the most enjoyable acts but we also provided most of the stage-hands for the ' whole sham. We, the executive, would like to thank all the mariners of the carmLmication class who worked so hard "memorizing" their lines - Mike MacKinnon our King (fairy nice boy), Newf the piano stool mover, and a V special thanks to Joan MacFarlane, Drama Society chairperson, for being our director and party— organizer. Several mmtbers of the communication class are already planning a skit for the Campus Cabaret Show to be held during Winter Carnival. let's hope the Business Society at least put in an appearance. Maybe they can sell peanuts or scme- thing. Well, back to serious business nm. Rosemary and myself are the new student reps. on the Education Faculty. We sat in on our first faculty meeting cn anday. 'IWo of the most important issues discussed were 1) 2nd semester and 2) mack pre-registration. Mr. MacDonald explained that the teaching block will be czmnprised of two 3-week sections. The first section to begin the first of April. Upon completion of the first section, the practise teacher will then transfer to another class (or school) and start the second section. "Ibis second section will end about the second week in May. This will probably be convocation week. All teachers are urged to get (their. log—books and reports back to their co-operatjng professors as soon as possible in order that they (the profs.) can send our marks to the Registrar. 'Ihe' other important issue discussed at the faculty meeting was the Mack Registration to be held this 'Ihursday, Dec.l at 4:00 p.m. in Room 17. This mock registration was discussed in last week's column but since it is so important we feel it should be mentioned again. 'Ihe first 15 minutes will go to: l) introduction of new part-time staff 2) outline changES and 3) change in timetable hours for next semester. Some of these . timetable changes include: Philosophy of Education (412) from the afternoon class to Wed. evening between 7 and 10:00; Education 471 frcm anday to Wed. between 7 and 10:00 , faculty meeting. and Social Studies to Tuesday between 7 and 10;00. The remainder of the meeting will be spent 1) chatting with elective course professors; 2) pre— requisites; 3) finding out what courses we need to graduate and finally 4) a mock registration. The reason for this meeting is so the faculty can determine the sizes of the classes. If some classes are too large, they will have to be sectioned; if the classes are too small (1 or 2 students) they may have to be eliminated (the classes that is !) 'Ihere was a meeting of the Education Society executive and also a meet— ing of the social committee following the _ It was decided that our Christmas party will be held this Friday, Dec. 2nd at 9 p.m. in the Panther lounge. 'Ihere will be a pub on Friday from 2 - 4:30. This p11) is sponsored by the Education Society. 'Ihis will probably be the only chance to relax before exams so come out and enjoy yourselves. We would also, at this time, like to invite all faculty and their families to both the pub and the Hate to mention money so close to Christmas time but. . . .Education Society fees ($3.00) are due and can be paid at our Office during office hours. Please pay your fees as soon as possible as we would like to have them all collected before Christmas. Winter Carnival plans are caning along fairly well. The Education Society has been asked to look after a couple of events. 'Ihe Business . Society has been asked to organize and'run the arm wrestling contest (the only arm contest they could win would be bend— ing.) Hopefully they will at least show up for the event. We, your executive, have challenged the B. S'ers to the first round of the tjug—of—war to be held on Thursday of Carnival Week. 'Jhere isn't much sense challenging them in the basketball, volleyball and- hockey tournaments that are going to be held because we will be dominating the league by then anyway. One last comment on Monday night ' s variety show. It was indeed beautiful to hear OUR group chant "we are—— nunber one" as we marched off the stage. It is 'very evident that we are No. l, but then again in order to be anything else we would need some sort of competition. Perhaps the engineers will be able to provide us with some in the future, as they seem to be the only other society on campus. Good luck in papers, reports and exams. Year. Don't forget Mock Registration on Thursday and the pub and party on Friday. Gerald M<enna Sec/Treas. Ed. Soc.
