he move on further. He need have
no fears as to the welfare of the people
nourished greatly since he left and Toron
can dispense with a preacher who parodies
the nQechism of his church in order to
teach a mathematical absurdity. which
even his publishers dolnot for n moment
believe. The publishers in a note to THE
GUARDIAN say:
humorous notice of this little book. It is
the last chance for a little humor ere the
century closes." Note the last words. The
_ Reverend author of the misleading
W Catechism ought to have begun at Jerusa-
lem and converted, or rather perverted
his publishers before appealing through
‘ sense prevails. It takes just 1900 cents to

Arthur Weir, whose sad death at
Ottawa was announced the other day Nas
one of the most promising of the younger
Canadian poets and journalists. He was
born in 1864 graduated at McGill in 1882
and devoted himself to journalism. He was
connected for some' years with the Mont-
real Star, afterwards with the Journal of
Commerce and at the time of his death
with the Ottawa Citizen. He published
volumes of poems in 1887, 1890 and 1893. It
was said of him that in all that he wrote
he preferred to be sensible and simple
rather than to be odd, intense or enig-
matic. The entire literary circle of Canada
has been shocked by his untimely demise.
