The present basis of telegraph charges has bean in affect since before the turn of the century, and contains numerous inequities and anomalies. It is now proposed to introduce a more modern system, similar to that in use in the United States, wharnundsr the charges for the transmission of messages: between any two points in Canada will be based entirely on the direct air line milaagn bntwaan such points. in the result than will, of course, be a number of increases and decreases in tho charges payable under the tariff of rates presently in effect. With the introduction of these new niessagc. rates, it is also proposed to rlisrontiuiis-. the practice of making additional Charges whom nmssagas are inlernhangnd hctwnnn tolligraph companion, or whore delivery of lolagranir by telephone. is offnclntt at points when no telegraph facilities exist. it is also proposed to reduce the existing telegraph money transfer toils within Canada. Iho Board of Transport Comniisslonors has directed that a schedule of tho proposed new roles he made available for public inspection at all Canadian National and Canadian Pacific telegraph offices. Those schedules am now available for perusal. The Board has set Tuesday, August 13, 1957, as the date for the formal hearing of the application of the telegraph companies, and has directed that the. public be notified by means of this advortisnment that representations in respect of that proposed new rates must be for- wardodl to the Sacrntary, Board of Transport Commissioners for Canada, Ottawa, .........-vqusw .. .
