MUNICIPAL ILICTIONS. Yesterday, Tuesday 7th August, will be a memorable day in the history of Charlottetown, and will, we cannot suffer ourselves for a moment to doubt, be the commencement of an era of increased prosperity to the new city. As muoli will depend on the line of conduct ado ted by the municipality and as the tutors wll he in a great degree influenced by the measures the ori inate, so we trust that nothing will he decided on without the utmost eliberation and caution. The law invests the Mayor and Common Council with very ex- tensive powers and it will be their duty to use these powers with discretion, so as best to promote the happiness and -welfare of those who have this do by their sulfrages raised them to these honorable stations. It is not our intention to make any rezunrlrs on the qualifica- tions of those elected: any such criticism would be unfair because premature. The-_v are all untried men and have been the chosen of the respective constituent-ii-s from a knowled of their rivato worth and the honesty and in- tegrity o their characters. Their year of iro- bation is .before them, and they will doubt use be anxious so to perform their respective duties, that at the anniversary of the day they may be able to give ii good account oftneir stewardship. The quietness Iliad-trillion on good order which has :v.t:en.lr*d the lirst election of Mayor and Councilmen in the City of Chnrlotteton is a favourable omen and sugurs well. e fol- lowing are the suece-isful candidates.
