Sik,—For some time past your correspon dent has observer! a steady inerense in the number of persons from the surroundiay country who regularly hawk vegetables, cte., through all parts of our city. It is we il known tothe taxpayers that an expensive building has been erected and sustained by them for the accommodation of the farmers’ wives and daughters, for the use of which a very smail toll is demanded. It is therefore an injustice to them to allow others to peddle all over town without a license, and a much greater one to those who have to pay taxes to keep the streets in order, Again, our truck men are hot drive horses proe uring a allowed to without — first license, aud every citizen keeping a horse is required to pay a tax for it. Now, is this right that farmers for miles around, who never contribute a dollar directly or indirectly towards any city improvement, should have all the privilegey and, more than our citizens enjoy, and pay nothing for it. Asa citizen | ivainst this practice being allowed to } : and Carts prot at continue, as often double demanded by these cult prices are imposters, to that asked by the re- occupants of the market House. 1 would suggest that a bye-law be passed at the first meeting of your City Couneil regulating this growing nuisance, and compel all such , street peddlers to procure a license for so| doing. { remain yours, A Victim. The heat is very steady and pleasant, caused no doubt from the atmosphe re in each department being heated with- On the important score of economy I do not think any | one could complain, as it seems unimportant what grade of coal is used. Wishing you every success in your line of business, I am yours truly, W. A. BRENNAN Summerside, August Ist, 1887. oOo Messrs. A.
