The change under the first law is intended to take effect to-morrow — the other is now supposed to be in operation. Both are the offspring of hypocrisy and fanaticism— both will be scouted as impracticable—the law re- lating to markets would, if carried out to the very letter, seriously interfere with the comforts and conveniences of all classes in the community; and the Gaming Law wil] rather have the effect of enecuraging gaming than suppressing it, as people will be apt to take a pleasure in setting at defiance so impudent and unwarrantable an interference with private and innocent amusements in one’s own house, as the Law referred to authorises.
