While it is impossible yet to make oomparlsonawith the esrly lobster catch of lost your, the prospects are that a. fair catch will be secured by our fishermen this season, reports Mr. B. T. Gallant, Inspector of Fish- eries, There was a scarcity of bait all lest week and very little fishing ‘was done. Since Monday, however, the bait has been plentiful and ex- cellent catches are reported from several points along the coast. Mr. PJA. MacLelian, overseer st Souris, reports to the inspector that herring is still scarce in that vicin- ity, but prospects for lobsters are very bright; one marl getting 840 pounds in 145 traps, the heaviest fishing in many years. A pathetic tragedy occurred at Middleton on Wednesday afternoon at about 3 o'clock when the infant son. John, aged B months, of Pro- fessor and Mrs. W. J. Reid met his 1198111 by a curious accident. The lit- tle child was sitting in its high chair, on tho verandah of the house when it fell forward head first into s buc- keg of milk. Mrs. Reid had just start- ed to drive to Freetown station to meet her husband coming up from Charlottetown by train and the hired Kiri was left in charge of the child. The girl who was almost beside the little one on the verandah the mom- ent the accident happened called loudly for Mrs. Reid who fortunate- ly had not driven out of hearing and aha returned immediately. The baby rescued from its position gave no signs of life and the mother call- ed at once on the telephone to Dr. A.’ D. Sharp who was on the spot within a. few minutes. He, however. after doing all possible was only able to pronounce life to be extinct and was of the opinion that death had been caused more from the fall than by drowning.
