I think, Therefore ... I think Letter to the Editor In response to this week’s let- ter to the editor by Kathy Stuart. Dear Editor: I find it incredible that the student newpaper has to plead for submissions. Surely all 2350 full time and 872 part time stu- dent write something for some- body somewhere, everyday. Is all this activity taking place in a mindless vacuum? The gem offers a medium for communication. It should reflect a wider range of concerns. It it doesn’t, it’s not the fault of the small group of people who keep it going. They desperately need eveyone’s participation. Even if only one in ten of the student body wrote or did some- thing for the gem once a year we’d have 322.2 submissions. Don’t tell me there’s nothing to say worth reading... Respectfully yours Kathy Stuart Bravo! Well said! It is people like you that take the time to respond, comment and submit something that keep the Gem going. If only one out of 20 people submitted something to the Gem each week, we could go from a 16 page issue to a 36 page issue weekly! Only about an hour of your time would make an incredible difference. If you don’t know a lot of people on campus, or are not known by a lot of peo- ple submit to the Gem you will become known! Those of you who pick up the Gem and say “This is garbage, there is nothing in here worth reading”, you are actually critciz- ing yourself, if you are not sub- mitting! The Gem is the voice of the Students of UPEI. However, itcannotrely 4or5 students to act as this voice. Everybody on campus has a right to say some- thing the Gem (providing it complies with our policy). All you have to do is take an hour a week, and write about what conerns you. [If it is im- portant to you, there is probably someone else out there who would be interested in reading it and re- sponding.
