I got out of the left of the car and went over to the ditch. I noticed two men. I heard o man saying, “Look what you done with your fast driving." I took no no- tice of him and kept on walking. I told the men to rush the injured man to the hospital. Afterwards I got Fred Blscquiero to drive me _ to the Mounted Police Omoo. On our way we stopped at my father's place and I had a drink of rum. I got the rum from the garage. I told the officer what had happened and he went with me to the scene of the accident. We then got Of- ficer Whlte of the Town Police. and went out again to the scene and later to the hospital. They told me the msn would be alright, and I said "That was great." We then drove to the _ jail. Ofllcer White said, he was going to arrest me, I said, “why arrest me, I will appear in the morning." White re- plied, “No, I am going to arrest you now.” I then said, “I don't think all three of you could arrest me if I did not want to go ln,” and I wnlked into the jail. The Court took recess. Cahill was cross-examined at the opening of the afternoon session. ' AFTERNOON SESSION The greater part of the af- ternoon session was taken up with the cross examination of Charles Cahill, the prisoner. As in the morning the court room was crowded, every available space be- ing taken up. Mr. Lowther con- ducted the cross examination. In answer to question witness stated that ht, had driven in and out to his filling station along that road several times a. day since June. There is quite a bit of traffic, it is is good wide road. I-Ie did not recall having any conversation with the Mounted Police officer, or making any statement, but he did not deny lt. Did not remember say- ing he had started drinking again that day. In answer to question, who got bottle of liquor prisoner replied, “I did.” Question: "Did you buy it.” Answer: “I did not buy it, I found it."
