Scotia for the prevention of the spread
of Influenza. have been received here.
Dr. W. J. P. McMillan, Health Officer
for this Province, has suggested that
these regulations be also adopted for
the people of Prince Edward Island:
WHEREAS, influenza prev:-iils in
various parts of the Province of Nova
Scotia, I do therefore uiidei' and by
virtue of Section 6 of the Public
Health Act, being Chapter 6 of the
Acts of 1918, and of every other power
and authority in me vested in this be-
half, hereby make the following Sani-
tary Regulations:
I1. I Influenza is to he regarded as an
infectious and contagious disease. dan-
gerous to the public health, and pre-
ventive measures commonly adopted
in case of any dangerous infectious or
contagious disease are to be applied in
the endeavour to prevent its spread.
2. The following measures are in-
dicated, and are to be adopted by the
local board of health of any district
which may be invaded by the disease:
(l) Isolate the patient. promptly.
Continue isolation five days after re-
covery.
, (2) Quarantine contacts for five
days. -
(3) Disinfect all discharges imma
diateiy.

tres, etc., if there is any indication of

(7) Prohibit any unnecessary ga-

endeavour to prevent an epidemic. It
is suggested that advice should be
given along the following linesz-
(a) Urge the necessity of covering
mouth and nose while coughing or
sneezing. The infective germ is given
off in the spray ejected in these acts.
Advise against the shaking of hand-
kerchiefs.
(li) Urge the necessity of plenty of
sunlight and air in houses, shops, etc.
Ventilation is of the utmost import-
ance. both as a preventive and cura-
tive measure.
(c) Urge the necessity of prompt
