PROCESSING Cucumber procusing at the plant of Matthew Wells is slightly be- hind that of last year, according to the plant manager, Mr. Gordon, who states that this is due to the low temperatures experienced dur- ing the past weeks. The acreage of cucumbers on the Island in equi- valent to that of 1958 and it is believed that the potential crop is here if he weather improves and higher temperatures are realized. Feeder Pigs Go To Maine A pioneering effort was begun last week when 200 feeder pigs were shipped to the State of Maine. Apparently, according to officials here, it is a matter of the Maine breeders wishing to develop a leaner type of bacon hog than that now grown in that State. It is believed to be the first such shipment to Maine ever made and is further evidence of the value of the Island developed York- shire-type bacon hog.
