Residence Life What’s Happening With Residence Life Residence Life Beach Day On Saturday, September 15, forty-six Bernadine, Marian, and Blanchard Hallers invaded Brackley Beach with sunblock and beachballs in hand. A few brave souls chanced their lives by entering the shark infested waters of North Shore PEI (not to mention it was darn cold). A few of the others embarked on a treasure hunt for prizes hidden in the sand dunes. They eluded the deadly and extremely poisonous sand snakes to bring home their precious treasures. Those who wanted to express their creativity had the opportunity to do so in the sand sculpture contest. Barb Gaddess, Joanne Dwyer and Chantell Mitchel of Blanchard Hall were the overall winners with their row boat sculpture. A very close second went to "Myrtle the Turtle" by Keren Norton and Eileen MacMillan of Bernardine Hall. Third and consolation prizes went to Bernardine Hallers as well. Third place was the "UPEI Sea Serpent" by Jacqueline Halverson, Eva Batiz, Carrie Fitzgerald, and Aeryn Kennedy. Kathleen Hue, Amanda Nicholson, and Kathy Power got the consolation prize with their sculpture of a beer box. After a spirited game of co-ed touch football, everyone gathered around the boardwalk to witness the Tim Bit eating contest. Chris "Mud Sucker" Livingston won the contest mouths down with a whopping 13 Tim Bits. A lucky few got to go horseback riding nearby at MacCallum’s Trail Rides. We hope their saddle sores are better by now. Some of the beachers tried their hand at acrobatics by doing some dune diving and human pyramid building. In all, a fun time was had by everyone that attended this stupendous Residence Life Event. A special thanks to the businesses that donated prizes and goodies for our Residence Life Beach Day. They were Kentucky Fried Chicken, Chevy’s Rock ’n Roll Forever, Tradewind, Tim Horton’s Donuts, and Marriott Foods. Also, thanks to all the students that participated in this fun day at the beach. Keep your eyes and ears open for our committee’s upcoming events so you don’t miss out on the fun. me As a special end note, the Residence Life Committee would like to common the efforts of the Bernardine and Marian Hall House Committees in raising money for Cancer Research in the Terry Fox Fun on Sunday, September 16th. The Bernardine Hallers (although few in number) were soliciting passersby on the corner of University and Belvedere Avenuew to eventually raise $241.00 for the cause. Marian Hallers pushed, pulled and tugged a fellow resident’s car along the 10 km route and collected well over $600.00. It’s great to see so much support from residence students for such a worthy cause. Way to go guys and gals!!! Bernardine Hall News By the Social Reps During the first week of September every year, the UPEI Student Union welcomes new students via a function known as "Frosh Week". Not to be outdone, the residences at UPEl do likewise for their own freshmen. It thus came to pass that the week of Sept. 10-16, 1990, was proclaimed t3 be "UPEI Residence .Frosh Week". The week in Bernardine Hall started with a softball game in Blanchard Hall Field, followed on Tuesday night by a water-balloon fight at the same location. These events, as fun as they were, were mere warmups for the real event: the residents of Marian and Bernardine pooled their festive resources for one of their patented Most Awesome House Parties (and folks, she was a good one!!).
