He then decided to go into Sillnlnerside himself. 1-le suspected prisoner to be the man wllo had broken into his store as he`llad met him on the road the night previous and had given him a. lift. He asked if his name was Casey and he said no, it was Arsenault, I-le took him as far as Urbanvllle on the road to Abrams Village. He recognized him ss the young msn Casey, who had formerly lived at Egmont Bay. On Saturday morning he identified him; Inspector Miller gave evidence that he had been acquainted of the theft by Mr. Gallant and had ar- rested CS-Sey on Water Street, Sum- merside, on information given him by Mr. Gallant. He questioned him about his whereabouts on Friday night. He said he had been working at Freetown and had 57 in his packet.” He had gone to Lot 16 looking for woilr. Hs had stayed the night at Misoouche station and re- turned to Summerside on Saturday morning where he had bought a` suitcase. When searched 'by Mr. Mill- er he had $9.17 in cash, a wat/ch. sweater similar to the one in court. undemeath his own sweater and numerous other articles about his person. I-le did not offer any explan- ation as to how he ca:ne‘by the articles. In the afternoon evidence regarding the theft at Abl`°am's Vill- age was taken.1 " ' ‘ Mr, Aban Gallant, clerk at the store, testified that he hadclosed the store the night er Friday. March 13th, and on going to the store in the morning he saw that a panel haf; been taken out of the door and the safe tampered with. The lid of the cash box had been wrenched oft and $2 taken out. There was some silver and coppers in the cash drawer. Some of the coppers had been taken and one which was a peculiar shape and had been in the drawer for some time was gone. A similar coin was among those found on the young man. Several articles were missing from the store, includ- ing a watch and two chisels. The empty clam cans were found in the store and it was noticed that two tins of clams had been taken from the shelf. There wasevldence that an attempt had been made to gain entrance through a window_ Another witness residing at Eg- mont Bay gave evidence that he had been awakened about l a. m. on Saturday morning by a young man who he believed to be the prisoner for a drink of water. as he was thll'sty. He drank t\\'o pints. He spoke in French. When hc left, wit- ness watched him and he wallzed towards Wellington. Other witnesses Prime Minister to the Imperial Coh- ference, asserting that these prop- osltions were responsible for the failure of the conference. And it de- clared that if the policies of the government were persisted in "the very serious conditions which exist. at the present time will be intensif- ied rather than relieved." The attitude taken by Premier Bennett at the Imperial Conference came in for strong criticism by Mr. King. He asserted that Mr. Bennetts method of approach to the confer- ence "resembled nothing more close- ly than the presentation of an ulti- matum to an unfriendly nation on the eve of war." He charged that Mr. Bennett had attempted coercion with respect to the domestic politics of the Mother Country, and that hs had iisuined a "petulant and childish" attitude when his proposals were ctiticised by t. Hon. J. I-I. Thomas, in the British House. And Mr. King went further.
