A corner’s inquest was held on the body of the man Countaway, before reported killed in a scuffle with one Boutillier on board aschoover in Halifax Harbor. The verdict was that Countaway came to his death from heart disease. Boutillier, who was arrested for murder, was accordingly released. It is announced that the Government will open military schools of instruction during the coming winter at London, Ottawa, Quebec and St. John. The schovls will only oe open to officers appointed pro- visionally to the infantry branch of the active militia service. This will permit officers to qualify after passing these ex- aminations. The residents of Stamford, Ont., are excited ever an attempted murder and suicide. A young man named Claud Lister went to the residence of a friend named Clarence Smith, aged about 16, called him out, and deliberately shot bim. The murderer then attempted his own life. He attributes the deadly assault to his great love for Smith and the desire he had to be slways in his company. Smith's chances of recovery are gvod, but Lister's are pro- blematical.
