SOLDIER’S FUNERAL—The funeral of Sergeant and Piper Major Angus M'Leod,who died on the 3rd May, of fever. after an illness of four days, in Paisley Bar- racks, took place on \Vednesday last. He was buried in the Cemetry, near to Dr. Kerr, the originator of bringing the Stanle_v water into Paisley. The deccased joined the 79th Regt. of Cameron Highlanders, at the age ofl.8 years. in 1843. and served in Gibraltar, Cana- da, and the East Indies, throughout the mutiny. for rather more than 22 years. and was discharged as Ser- geant and Piper Major irom the Highland Depot Batn talion, stationed at Aberdeen, in 1865. on a pension of Is. lies-d per day. The deceased was a most exemplar}7 character, and received a medal for long service and good conduct, together with a gratuity of £10. He was in possession of the Indian war medal, with a claSp tor the relief and capture of Lucknow. In 1865, on his discharge from the 79th Regt., he was immediately made Sergt. and Piper Major of the Royal Renfrew Militia. in which he was much respected both by oflieers and men. The funeral was attended by a number 0“ civilian friends and relations, and by a party of Non- Commissioned officers, and men of the lst Battalion, 25th Royal Borderers, by the Stall and Band of the Royal Renfrew Militia, and also by the kind permission of Major Smith, by one of the Paisley local companies of enrolled Penswners. who furnished a firing party of 1 Sergeant, 1 Corporal, and 20 Privates, who fired three volleys with veteran precision over his grave. The following officers of the deceased’s late Regiment attended his funeral. Captain and Adjutant Forrest, Drs. Hutcheson and Graham, and L. B. Barr, Esq., Quarter-Master. The deceased was a native ot the arish of Tongue, Sutherlandshire, and leaves a widow and four children to lament his loss.
