B.. for many years music supervisor in Moncton schools was among the recipientsof honor- ary doctorate degrees on Saturday. August 14th. at Mt. Allison Uni- versity as the University marked the 100th anniversary of education for women at Mt. Allison. Miss Harrison was born at Debec. Carleton County daughter of the late Rev. William Harrison. DD.. and Carrie E. Harrison. Miss Har- rison received her early education in the public schools in Dorchester and Bedeque. P.E I., and her ele- mentary education in Ladies Col- lege. Sackville. She also received a diploma from the Ladies College. Mt. Allison and later graduated in piano, pipe organ. elocution and major subjects. She also studied pipe organ in Montreal and piano in London. England where she was a. pupil of Franklin Taylor in the Royal College of Music. She also took various courses in many sum- mer schools. She was a student and teacher in religious education at Lake Menmpesaukee, NH. Miss Harrison was church organ- ist and piano teacher in Charlotte- town. Summerside, Fredericton and Moncton. Dr. Moyse expressed appreciation for large number of prizes that had been donated to this years show and told the audience that. realizing there is always room for improvement. a suggestion box had been placed in the back of the hall and he asked that suggestions be placed therein. Mayor Wedge stated that he took particular pride in being pre- sent at a provincial function that was being held in Summerside and commented that people ordi- narily think of provincial affairs as taking place at the capital. He said that its a good thing for any province to have provincial func- tions held in various communities throughout it. and not always at the capital. Mayor Wedge con- gratulated the sponsoring organi- zation and extended a welcome to all. Miss Wyatt extended a welcome on behalf of the Abegwelt Chapter of the I.O.D.E. and stated that the sponsors were very encouraged by the magnificent display of gla- dloll and table decorations as well as the many new exhibitors and added donors to this year's show. The Hon. C, C. Baker said that since the Abegweit Chapter of the I.0.D.E. conceived the idea two years ago, the annual flower show has been a wonderful success. He stated that the show goes hand in hand with the Rural Beautifi- tlon Society's projects. as flowers play an important role. in the beautification of country or town. Mr. Baker said that in his lengthy travels. no place had he seen flowers more wonderful than our own and stated that the Depart- ment of Agriculture is always will- mg to help in the advancement of such a worthy exhibition.
