= ‘ oe Gee Crops Destroyed by Army Worms, ‘Drought and Rose Bugs—Scar- city of Water. A SO IIR The army worm seems to have near- ly ran their course in Qusens County, and have alse nearly disappeared in Sufiolk County, excepting in, the viein- ity of Westhampton, where they have left the upland Gelds and entered the low permanent mencdows on both sides of the bay. Where from 500 to 400 tons of hay are ordinarily cut every year, from present appearances they will not leave twenty-five tons; and eattle heretofore pastured on the mead- ows after the grass had startled Its sec- ond growth, must now be provided for in some other manuer. It is a serious quostion here and in other localities how stock is to be fed. Many coru fields have been eaten off by the worms and replanted, but in consequence of the drought the seeds have not «prouted and the prospect of a corn crop with many farmers is extremely dubious, uniess there comes speedy and copious rains falls. Allerops are sufferiag from the renewed and long-continued drought, | but especially oats and grass. Phe pas- tures begin to look as though singed by by 2 fire. And last in the train of ti- sect enemies which the farmers this season have to contend with, are unpre- cedenied numbers of rose bugs. Wells und cisterns, too, are ruoving dry in many neighbourhoods, and people sre forced to transport water, sometimes for a long distance, for the use of their stock as well as for domestic purposes. The oldest inhabitsnts can hardly re- member such a long continued dry spell. —N. Y. Sun. ~~ At a sale at Chicago, Dl. on the 50th ult. the C Canada were disposed of.
