FEBRUARY 26. 1953 Britain Hopes To Boost Sales on iianaiiian Market DQNDON. (OP)-Britain would like to sell Canada a record 3450,- ooo,ooo worth of goods this year and thus balance Anglo-Ca dian trade, a board of trade apo man says. This exporttarget wasa ounced on the eve of the departure for Canada of Gordon Bowen-as new senior trade coinmissloner for the United Kingdom in Canada. Bowen leaves Friday by air for Ottawa, replacing R. Keith Jopson. C "What we want is trade balan- ceri by positive action." the spok- esman said. "We want to sell more to Canada, not buy lus from her." The target named would better record 1961 exports to cana.da.va.l- ued It nearly :42i.ooo.ooo. That year Canad sold about 3636.000,- coo worth 0 goods to Britain. Last year the value of British exports tooanada dropped sharply to less than 53ti0.000.fD0, largely due to falling wooilens prices. although volume was not much less. The esman said the British Government this year is banking on increased sales of woollens, Warlous types of machinery, pug. WW and other commodities, though aware that competition is stiffening. ' Von iiunsledi Recalled Hiiler Vlilh Hatred By Daniel De Luca F'R.ANKE'UR.T, (AP)-Field Mar- shal Gerd von Rundstedt obeyed Adolf Hitler to the bitter end of the Nazi Reich. But he remembered the Fuehrer with hatred and con- tempt. In his apartment at Hannover. the Prumian soldier spent his last. days in his gloomy invalidism. On the eve of his 77th birthday last Dec. 12, he brbke his own iron- clad rule against contact with the press as a favor to his former cli1i"ef of staff, Guenther Bluemcn- tr t. with Blumcntritt as sponsor. this correspondent was received by von Rundstedt for an afternoon of reminiscences, but the field mar- shal warned, "no isoundi off in the papers about what we say." - ”l'here is no hope for German reunification without war -- and nobody wants war," he said. Hitler? The old field marshal stiffened whenever the name came up and referred to him mostly as "that bohemian corporal." Four times, Hitler relieved von Rundstedt of military commands, but thrice called him back to serve the Fatherland in a crisis." In 1944, he was dismissed at the climax of the Normandy cam- paign, having told the Fuehrer's supreme headquarters, "make peace. idiots!" In March, 1945. came his last ouster as' the Western Allies slash- ed deep into Germany. "Hitler had a mania. about steel and concrete," von Rundstedt re- called. "It caused his delusion gbout the Atlantic wall, made up mostly of propaganda. "We had some steel and concrete bunkers along Cape Gris Nez we showed to visiting personalities- thc same bunkers to each new group. "But for hundreds of miles. we had virtually nothing. An outpost here, another there, of soldiers squatting in sand dunes or riding back and forth on bicycles."
