Faulkner, late travelling auditor P. E. Island Railway, Dorchester Street, opposite old City Hotel. This furniture is almost new and in good order, Ar the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court this forenoon, Michael Purcell, arrested on com- plaint of his father for being drunk and dis- orderly, was sentenced to one imonths’ im- prisonment. Geo. E, Full summoned for cut- ting down a tree before the residence of Mrs, Stamper, was fined $16 and costs for the offence. On Monday, as an employe of Prof. Hand's technic Factory, Hamilton, Ont., was fillimg a rocket, it exploded in his hand. Dropping the rocket, it set all the fireworks in the building off, causing a terrible ex- plosion, demolishing the building, which was of frame and detached, and shaking the sur- rounding buildings considerably. Strange to say, noone was hurt. Prof. Hand’s loss is about $2,500. Micrria.— We understand that our Militia force in Charlottetown are deprived of the rivileges of the Kensington Shooting Range or practice. If our Deputy Adjutant General wishes the Volunteers of this Island to make any show in the competition at Ottawa for the Wimbleton team, he had better provide for them a range to practice at, as we under- stand they are entitled to one from the Dom- inion Government. A pispatcnu of the 5th inst., from St. Peter's, C. B., reports that the brig Zinga, two hundred and: ninety-eight tons, Capt. McLeod, owned by Messrs. Peake Bros. & Oo., of Charlottetown, forty days from Liver- pool, England, for Charlottetown with a cargo of salt, struck a reef near Cape Hogan (Arichat), on Sunday morning, and came off leaking badly, was kept afloat until ran ashore, at the entrance of the canal. In re Marchbank’s estate, an appeal from the Surrogate Court, the judgment of the Sur- rogate was sustained. In the case of the Queen vs. Lynch, for bigamy, a motion for a new trial was granted, and the defendent released on his ewn recognizance, We are pleased to see that Messrs. Mc- Donald Bros., David Keefe and Felix McGirr, enterprising cattle dealers of St. John, N. B., are about to engage in a spec- ulative exportation of cattle to Great Britain, in order to see if they cannot work a portion of the business to St. John. The cattle trade of the Dominion has hitherto been in the hands of the Upper Province people, but if this speculation succeeds, the business will not be entirely theirs in the future. We have been asked several times to-day for a report of an investigation by the Stipen- diary Magistrate, of several charges brought against the retained policemen. As the mem- bers of the force decline to supply any infor- mation regarding the matter, and as the inves- tigation was held with clesed doors, it is as yet impossible for us to obtain a strictly authentic report, The facts, as far as we can learn, are: One of the officers recently noti- tied of his dismissal, adopted the “cut behind policy,” and yesterday morning brought sev- eral charges against the retained officers. The charges, we learn, were serious, but, being locked in the bosom of the officer who made them from the time the offences were com- mitted to the present, the effect which they should produce was materially lessened. The result of the investigation, it is rumored, was the fining of Sergeant McGregor, $14; officer Hugh StcGonnel, $8 ; Marshal Flynn, $5, and the suspension of officer Bradley for two months. What the offeuces of the officers were we have yet to leatn. ———- -<F§ > Why Will You Allow a cold to advance in your system and thus encourage more serious maladies such as Pneumonia, Hemorrhages and Lung troubles, when an immediate relief can be so readily emery ee “emis ‘ has gai the larges e in world for ea of Coughs, Colds and the severest Lung Diseases. Hon James McDonald introduced a resolution in the House of Commons making the salaries of the County Court Judges of Prince Edward Island equal to the salaries of similar judges in the other Provinces, viz : $2,000 for three years, and $2,400 there- after. Mr. Brecken regretted that the Govern- ment did not think fit to put the Supreme Court Judges of P. E. Island on the same footing as the Supreme Court Judges of other Provinces. He pressed {the matter very strongly and said that he felt sure the Government would soon do justice in ,the matter. The resolution passed, and a bill was in- troduced. Lonvon, May 5.
