GORRIE, BY SIR JOHN MACDONALD, DR, TUP< MR. MACDOUGALL, AND OTHERS. SHEECHES PER, Gorrie, June 19.—The picnic toxday was in every respect 4 marked success, exceed- ing by along way the most sanguine exs pectations which had been entertained by its promoters. As the proceedings did not commence till after 12 o'clock, Sir John Macdonald and party drove over to Wrox- eter, where they were met by the people of that village, and another address of wel- come was presented him. At twelve o'clock a procession was formed at the house of Mr. Perkins,-and a move was ma‘e for the grounds. rior to that, however. processions from Wingham, Harriston, Wroxeter, Clifford, Listowell, Brussels, and other places arrived, accompanied by bands of music. They gathered outside the resi- dence of Mr. Perkins and gave cheers for Sir John, Lady Macdonald, Dr. Tupper, Mr. | Macdougall, &c. When the procession did | move it presente) a fine spectacle. The streets were crowded as indeed they had been from avery early hour. Thousands, arrived in teams, and as many more came | by trains on the Toronto, Grey and | Bruce railway. The company arrived at the | grounds shortly after one o'clock, where the tifth address of the occasion was presented to Su John. Dmner wasthens rved. The) platform was again taken at two o lock, at which hour the speaking commenced. Mr. T. Farrow occupied the chair. Mr. Macs | dougall made one cf the ablest speechs| es he ever delivered. Sir John we °s | in his happiest vein. The only hitch in the, proceedings of the day was in respect to| the last speaker. Dr. Tupper, who in con-| sequence of the lateness of the hour at, which he was called upon, did not speak: at any very great length. Great regret was expressed onali hands, but he pro- mised to speak at length on some future, oceision, when he might attend a similar! gathering in a neighboring village. To- | night a ‘banquet tendered to Sir John is proceeding at Mrs. Day’s Hotel. To-mor- row ® demonstration is to take place at Orangeville.
