Burrato, N. Y., Sept. 30, Frank Edwards, of Corfu, Genese county, accompanied by his wife and child, were overtaken by the storm of yesterday, and while seeking shelter beneath a large tree, Edwards and two horses attached to their carriage were instantly killed by lightning. The balance of the party were uninjured. CuicaGco, Sept. 30. The roads leading east from this city have done an immense freight business during the past week in excess over the previous week amounting to 15,898 tons, the largest increase for one week wade in several years. ‘I'he cavse of increase was the fight between the Bullsand Bears in the grain trade at Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. New York, Sept. 30. Madison Square garden was filled this evening on the occasion of the reception to Rowell. Exhibition walks were given by Rowell, Hazael, Guyon, Merrit, and Ennis. Rowell ran a mile in 5.273. A two mile walk for $50, between Peter Crossland, England, and John Dobler, Chicago, was won by the latter, in 18.36}. At the conclusion of the exhibition, Rowell was presented with a large silver card receiver, accompanied with the usual congratulatory address. No presentation of the belt was made, that trophy, which was deposited at Tiffany’s | by Mr. |3usby, Weston’s agent, for safe keeping, having been attached in a suit by some of Weston’s creditors. GREAT BRITAIN. Lonpon, Sept. 50. After the Boyd-Higyins boat race yes- terday, Hiliott challenged Boyd to row for £200 aside. The offer was accepted. The man arrested last week for the $29,- 000 forgery on Glynn, Mills & Co., bank- ers, has been identitied as William Ring- gold Cooper, an American, formerly in the United States navy. He swindled that de- partment out of $175,000, afterward be- came « daring and expert forger. He had been living at an elegant country seat near Herefordshire, hunting with the gentry, giving liberally to the poor, attending church, and meanwhile forging the names of uis neighbors. His arrest led to the discovery of another forgery on the Bank of England, for which he will be arraigned. AUSTRIA, Vienna, Sept. 30. The suspension of Schild & Co., drapers, is reported, liabilities five hundred thous- and florins. Several Paris and Lyons houses are among the creditors. Sieber & Jerabb, cotton merchants, have also failed, liabilities two hundred thousand florins. This effects parties in Mancheste- and Liverpool. GENERAL NEWS: Rom, Sept. 30. Sicily and Southern Italy were visited by a@ great storm on Sunday, which carried away the railroad bridge between Ciro and Crucilo, hnrling a passenger train into the torrent. ‘The engineer was killed and ail the passengers injured.
