September 21st.
Excellent weather for threshing
sent the price of wheat down another
cent to-day. All available machines
are finding brisk employment' in the
West. The available supply in Great
l.iri'taiii is however decreasing and
the price is expected to remain fairly
steady. Wheat for September deli-
very sold in Chicago at $1.00 a bushel.
Oats.-The prospect is that oats
will be pretty cheap this autumn.
' Sales of Ontario and Quebec No. 2
white oats were made in Montreal at
. 42c.. and a contract has been entered
som
in Sydney at 46c. in September and
45c. in October in bags. This would
make the price of oats to the farmers
of Prince Edward Island about 3-ic. to
36c. a bushel, and it is the general
opinion that 'the market will open
this autumn at about that price. At
local points in Ontario oats is bring'
ing from 33c. to 38c. a bushel, while
wheat i_s being bought around 85c. a
bushck
Milifeeds»-Bran has advanced $2.50
a ton and is selling at $25.00 while
n1ldrillnlr.s have gone up to $32 to
$33, including bags.
Hay.-The price of hay has declin-
ed ill Toronto. Timothy is seljlng at
$18.00 and mixed hay at $14.00 per ton
At local points through Ontario it is
bringing from $12 to $16. In Mont-
real No. 2 hay is bringing about $17
ex-track.
Potatoes.-The Toronto Sun says
that New Brunswick potatoes are sell-
ing in Toronto at from 60c. to 05c.
per bog of 90 lbs.
Cheese and Butter.-Trade in
dairy products is quiet. Cold storage
butter sold to-day at 291,50.. The re-
ceipts of butler were 448 packages
compared with 484 for the same day
last week and 92 for the correspond-
ing date a year ago. The finest
creaniery is quoted at 30c., with a firm
feeling ill the market. The receipts
of cheese were 13,620 boxes as coni-
pared with 9.6811 for the same day
last week alid 10.964 for the corres-
ponding date a year ago. The demand
over thc cable was somewhat limited
to-day alld tile market' was quieter
but the tone is steady. The llnest col-
oured cheese are quoted l5c. and
white cheese 14%c. At country
cheese boards throughout Ontario
quite a lot of cheese were .sold to-day
bringing from I4!/gc. to 14 9-10. Que-
bec sales brought only 140. and 162
boxes of butter were sold at 29%c. a
pound.
Horses.-The French Government
is now buying army horses in Toron-
to. About one hundred animals pass-
ed ilispection yelsterday. seifing at
from $130 to $160 each, and about the
same number were .sold to-day. While
the French officials demand a good
horse they will take s. slightly lighter
animal than the British Commission-
ens and are not quite so severe In
their specification.
