Clark and‘McQuarrie, have a’r- sl 9 lrived here. ‘ The Aberdeen wasowned by Captain Johnson Lord, and Mr. E. Boswell of this place and went ashore at Savage Harbor in last Thursday[’}gg1e_ “We lelt Douglastow , Ggspe,” said Mr- MCQuarrie to a Gnsanian corres- pondent. ‘~wiiha tnlllaad ot sleepers for Sydney, last . We were then carrying the jumbo and double reeted mainsail. . “The Wind was by this time blowing a hurricane; but while attempting to turn about, our main sheet was torn from the boom and t‘ie jumbo also went by the board. As our loresail was not new and unable to withstand such a gale, it was impossible to lay to. “The captain headed her due south and then began a~ night to be long re- membered. Unable to;see ten;teet ahead of us, wet and almost benumbed by the water and cold, unable to warm our- selves or make a tire we. drifted dor- ing that terrible night with the seas rolling mountains high. Morning camo at last, however, but still the wind blew even more than during the night. We cleared North Point successfully and had the wind remained in the same quarter we might have ccme ' out safe. ~-However the wind came in North East. There we were caught in the horns of the cresc-nt shaped island with a sea rolling inouutiins high. No ship that sails could escape from that terrible n’ght. Our only alternative was ti let her ground. “Our captain had displayed the greatest coolness during the whole eventful day, and seeing that the vessel had to be beached he chose his spot. It was well chosen. Three great waves swept us over the tirst bar, and we were in quieter water. The wind and waves brought us quite near the shore but as we had lost our boat we would have to remain abroad all night but for some fisherman who had assembled at the beach and who very pluckily came to our assistance. -‘I cannot say too much about the hospitality of those people” continued the sailor, -‘they treated us very kindly and helped us to recover all our per- sonal effects.Captain Lord too is greatly to be praised for his great pluck in sticking to the wheel. While crossing the bare. great wave sent him with great force against the cabin but the next instant he was at his post.” The Aberdeen is insured for $600. This is the second wreck from this port this summer. Most of the sleepers were saved but the vessel will likely be a total wreck. Captain Lord remained at Savage Harbor. Mr. John McNeviu who was also on board has not yet returned to Victoria, but is visiting friends in Canoe Cove. ‘-Two heads are better than one. “It the one who have is dull and heavy you need Hood’s Svrsaparilla.
