Souris, Morell Advance TO Hockey Semi-Finals Souris and Morell won both their quarter-finals in straight games. Morell eliminated Sum- merville, while Souris knocked over Mount Stewart. Of the two series, the Summerville Morell was the toughest. Although bow- ing in two straight, the Summer- ville lads put up quite a scrap before bowing. A MEETING of ,Cambridge, Murray Harbor North, Sturgeon and Gaspereaux, polls will be held Friday at 8 o'clock at Cambridge J. A. MacDonald will be in at- tendance. THE LIBERAL public meeting, advertised for Murray Harbor Tuesday, March 11, has been postponed to Saturday, March 15, because of the visit to the Pro- vince ‘of Hon. Lester Pearson. A MEETING of the East and West polls, Montague, will be held in the Progressive Conser- vative committee rooms on Wed- nesday March 5th at 8 o’clock.' Also a meeting of the South Poll at Reid Farmequipment. A. A. (JOEY) FRASER, Im- 'perial Oil agent at Montague, has returned from Moncton, N. B., where he was attending an annual company meeting. He was accompanied by Lorne Stewart, imperial oil agent at Murra Harbor. The Souris-Mount Stewart ser-. ies wasn’t quite so close. Souris won both games by very decisive margins. Just who Souris and Morell will meet in the semi- finals is unknown at time of writ- ing. They might meet each other. From all reports, if this happens, it.’l1 be one of the roughest tough- est series ever played on Souris ice. . 'These two teams have very con- trasting styles: Souris is usually a smooth skating, good passing team. Every player plays good position hockey, and can usually be found in the right place at the ’ right time. Morell, on the other hand, are a hard working band of puckesters. Dig, dig, dig, could pass as their motto. From the time they enter the ice surface until they leave, they dig. Many of their games have been won by sheer determination alone. Some- times, to watch them, one would wonder how they stand the ter- rific pace they set. Souris and Morell are rivals from away back. This rivalry in- cludes all age groups, and the sporas it’s really noticeable are baseball and hockey. If they meet it should be quite a series. And by the way, Morell plays all it's home games on Souris Ice, so if they meet, all games will be played in Souris. Georgetown edged Souris High in an exhibition game in George- town on Saturday night. The Georgetown team pretty well con- trolled the play until the latter part of the game. At one stage the game was tied 5-5 until Georgetown scored the winner. It was Souris’ third loss of the season against two wins. ‘ While on the subject of High School, we might bring up the subject of whether or not sports are beneficial to High School students. One said that our Canad- ian youth was getting soft. Be- cause of lack of proper exercise, our Canadian boys are becoming unable to even play a good game iof hockey without becoming ex- lhausted. The other gentleman said pretty much the same thing. At our end of the Island, it doesn't seem like our boys are quite that far gone. But, it could happen. Unless that old axiom, is rev'1ve’d “All work and no play, can make Jack a dull boy”. For those who ob- ject, we’d ask them to search into the matter, and see actually how much time is really being lost. They’ll find it’s really very little. Let’s give the boys a chance. Turning to bowling, the Abbies pulled the biggest upset of the Souris_ Women’s League when they knocked the Claim Jumpers out in the elimination rounds and drew a bye into the finals. This could establish them as favourites to take the title. At the present time, the Blue Goons are one game down in their semi-final series with the Country Cousins. In the Men's League, the Lob- ster Kings edged the Perfection- .ists 3-2 in the first game of the semi-finals. The winners will meet the first place Remblers in the finals. Both semi-final ser- ies will end this week, and the finals are expected to get under- way toward the last of the week. Any bowlers wishing to enter a team in the Mixed League are hereby advised to have their en- tries in by this coming Friday. The League will probably get un- derway the first of next week.
