Longworth Macdonald’s representative in his province. The occasion was fittingly elebrated on the premises, and Mr. Lewis was present with his camera and took several large photographs of the, building and grounds. M-. Macdonald’s new house, which is 4 Keq., Mr said to be the finest summer residence in he Dominion, is situate 1 on the farm ately MeAulay. It owned ty John D northeast on a delightful surf-shore, fresh water ronts nt 1 and there isa large pond of within one hundred yards on the south the house. The house itself is forty long, and side of ight feet wide by eighty-five feet it is two and a half stories high. A ver- andah twelve feet wide and one hundred and sixty feet long extends around three sid ea of the house. Upon entering the house by the main door the visitor finds himself in a hall twenty feet by fifty. On one side of this ball isa fireplace cf native stone s’‘ven feet in width. A massive stair-case lead- off the hall to the second — story which is fitted with & gallery all round looking down on the main hall. This gallery is hung from. the ceiling by iron rods, thus doing away with the neces- sity for pillars inthe lower hall. The lining room is twenty-two feet by thirty, and in it there is another open fireplace as wellas a large butler’s pantry leading to the kitchen. There are alsoa large reception room, a smoking room and a bedroonf on the first floor. On the second floor there are seven large bedrooms; and on the third floor there is a large billiard room besides seven bedrooms for servants, There are two bathrooms on the first floor and one on the second They are elegantly fitted with all the jatest and most approved appliances. A large bowling alley has been erected in the rear of the house. A windmill with a tank containing twenty-five barrels at the top supplies the house with water for all purposes. On the lawn in front of the house a tall flagstaff rears its head, from which the Stars and Stripes proudly floated on the anniversary of the Declaritioa of Inde- pendence. The grounds are bing beauti- fully la‘d off with flower beds, ete. The houeze reflects the greatest credit upon the builders, Messrs. Rhodes, Curry & Co., aa well as upon Mr. C. B. Chap- pell, who superintended the work of erec- tion under the direction of Mr. Longworth. It is all “.nished inside with the best quality of spruce and red cedar, no plaster being used. The foundation of the house was laid on the 6th April, an] io less than three months the entire structure was completed and handed over. Mr. Macdsnald and family are at pre- sept in Italy. They hope, however, to be able to reach this province early next month andjspend a few weeks at “ Dal- vey,” their new,and handscme summer residence at Tracadie, A “Re still, faint heart, and cease repining, Bebind each cloud is the sun still shia- ing.” Yes,and it will be shining to-morrow, we confidently expect, on Zion Church picnic at Suffolk, You will make a mis- take if you do not come and sample the delicious strawberries and cream and all the season’s delicacie:, and take in the beauties o° the place thrice blessed by nature.
