Mr. Mac- Donald said the work of this de- partment has been carried out in conjunction with the Depart- ment of Welfare at the Health Centre. A suitable stenographlc and clerical staff headed- by an accountant serves both depart- ments. Offlc espace in this build- llll is at a premium due to gradual increase in the staff of the many divisions. Plans for the replacement of the older portion of the building by a new struct- ure corresponding with the sec- tion opened in 1950 should be" con- sidered in the immediate future. Cooperation between the De- partment and the Department of Public Works provides mainten- anceyand repairs to the various buildings. A committee has been formed between the two depart- ments to plan and supervise new construction and the alteration of existing space. The value of this measure has been proven In con- nectlon with the construction of the new Active Treatment Unit at Falconwood. An addition to the staff was made last September when Dr. Burton Howatt returned from special training at the University of Toronto. At present Dr. Ho- watt is carrying out field serv- ices in connection with the con- trol of i ” dd H well as assuming responsibility for clinics in Charlottetown and Summerslde. The Health Department now consists of nine divisions, no re- placement having been secured for the Director of Nutrition who Tesillned 188i year. Head offices for all divisions except two are situated at the Health Centre in Charlottetown. The Division of Mental Health functions from of- flees cat Falconwood Hospital. while the administration of the Division of Tuberculos Control is carried out from the rovinclal llllllc The sub-office in Summerslde has contributedtsubstsntiaiiy to public health measures in the Western part of the province dur- flcer now spends two days a week at this Centre. and carries on an inoculation and vaccina- tion clinic there once a month. In addition. the Summerside of- fice has a full time public health nurse and sanitary Inspector who serve the town and surrounding districts. Chest clinics are held at this Centre twice each month throughout the year, and pneu- mothorax treatments are given twice weekly.
