It was reported last night at the Montague Town Council meet- ing by His Worship. Mayor 3. H. Yeo. that the street paving pro- gram might have to be set aside for another year owing to the late- ness of the season before the work could be done. He pointed out that commlttments on the Commercial Road would have in be completed before any other work would be contemplated. However, it was stated that light-top paving could be laid at. the rate of about three- quarters of a mile is day. and that with good weather conditions the road to Murray River should be completed by the end of Septem- her. The mile of paving in the town proper would require ap- proximately one week. including preparation. This would mean that by the end of the first week of October the program could be completed. The matter received a great deal of discussion, and it was felt that another effort to have it paved this year should be made. The remainder of the session was taken up with routine busi- ness. A motion regarding the remov- ing of street culverts too small to carry of the water was amended by striking out "replacing with larger culverts" to remove any ambiguity that the town would replace such culverts removed. Payment of bills amounting to 5161,34 was approved. The resignation of Mr. Charles M-cliennan as police chief was ac- cepted. and Mr. John White was appointed as police chief. with power to hire an assistant at any time required.
