It has ofjen been asserted that Lactated Food is the best in the world for babies who cannot obtain a full supply of healthy brest milk. All assertions iegarding the superiority of Lactated Food, are backed by the strongest proofs. Mrs. E. P. Nichols, 106 City Road, St Joha, N. B. writes as follows: “Some time ago you kindly sent me a sample:tin of Lactated Food. Iam very iardy ex- pressing my thanks, but it is not, by acy means, that Ido not fully appreciate it. I have continued using Lactaated Food ever since, and am perfectiy satisfied with it. “* My baby is now a great fat, healthy girl, weighs over twenty poudds, is just eight months old, and has six teeth, and mare nearly through. My friends are gnrprised she is getiing her ‘teeth so eas y- She is no trouble at night tome. I could not, with an easy conscience, do without Lactated Food.” Mothers in Banada who give Lactated Food a weed’s trial, will never use any other food for their babies. Lactated Food is indeed a life-giver; it j a preserver and shield from all summer complaints to veery baby who is fed ou it from day to day. A RACE FOR LIFE, The new torpedo boat Le Grandeur ran into the harbor at Boulogne last Friday morning at a high rate of speed, and was at once abandoned by her crew. Sbe had been partly burned and was filling with water. La Grandeur was attached to the fleet now mancuvring in the channel. During the early morning she collided with the armored cruiser Jean Bart. The first examination of her hull showed that she was badly damaged, and the water was entering so fast that it would be a race for life to get her into port. She was headed for Boulogne. Fucl was piled on her fire until she was run- ning 25 milesan hour. Her boiler plates grew red hot, the woodwork caught fire and the flames rapidly spread beyond the control of the crew. The 20 men manning the vessel fought the fire with desperation, preserving perfect discipline despite their growing agony as the flames crept to- wards the magazine. Only one man, and he was a recruit, gave up and tried to jump overboard. He was caught in time, however, and was put in irons. Eventually the fire was eee when but a few feet from the magazine by the in- flux bod water through the a made by the J ean Cart. ar the men were then able to qu to flow in aud the v tuuudered with all on board hnad she been kept at sea half av hour longer. Hisherio these heaps of mine refuse have been allowed to remain neclected, except by Chinese miners, who have extracted gold ia considerable quantities from them. It is now found that, with the use of cerain appliances, the output of gold can be largely increased, by saving the “anriferous particles which were formerly allowed to run to waste. In the northern coustal districts large quantities of fine gold are obtained from \ the sand on the sea-beaches, especially after a storm, aud it is expected ‘that Ly substituting machine for hand labor, tae gains of the crowds of gold hunters will become considerably augmented.
