16 ms | Asa z= Barn-burners: a chat with Earl Pereira of Wide Mouth Mason by Stephen McQuaid STAFF WRITER I really admire a band that doesn’t have to come to PEI, yet still does, and often. This is just one reason, among many, that makes me like Wide Mouth Mason as much as I do. Last March, they chose Myron’sas the first venue for their “Play It Safe” tour which was for their new album, and which was sponsored by Durex. I don’t remember that crowd being as large as it should have been, but it was a great show. To my glee they returned within the year, this time opting for UPEI’s Barn. Again, they put on another amazing and tight show despite the venue. The crowd was better this time, responding well to all of their original tunes, plus their perfect covers of “‘Rapper’s Delight”, Stevie Wonder’s “Boogie On Reggae Woman”, and Hendrix’s “Izabella”. They did total justice to each tune, a feat which I don’t think any other band could do. Last time they were here, I had a great chat with Shaun Verrault (their lead guitarist), and got to hang out with them all. This time, I got to chat with Earl Pereira (bass). What struck me was how much all three members are on the same page, and how similarly they answer the same questions. With my limited word count, here is the most I can tell you about what Earl had to say on that joyous eve of November 13th, 1999. When I talked to Shaun last March, he commented on wanting to move up to playing theatres, and not playing This Special Available For Delivery To: UPEI, BROWN COURT, HOLLAND COLLEGE ~ & COMPU COLLEGE ONLY!!!
