He even went so far as to go over tO my piano and lift the music va top of the piano, and shove the mopey under the music. k told him he must take it away, that I could not take it. He was persistent, so persistent in his determination tu give me something that 1, to try and get vid of him, said he might give me some little thing for my wife —some little thing, and let it go. I spoke to Mr. Murphy afterward ia Quebec, when I saw him some months afterward, and I took him to task for what he huddone. He said there was no need of sayiog anything at all about it, that he had valy doae what he intended to do when he left my house. I told him he should never have done so, he never shouki have sent me what he did send me; and I spoke to him in that way. A few days, afterward, or a little time afterward, 1 do not know, he handed me the bill for tne articles—which I have in my pors-ssion, I will say to the committee that | was simply astounded by the amount. I thought that what he had sent me was a small thing in the shape of a doucer; but I was really astounded at the amount. of the bill. I need not say to you, gentlemen, that it affected me very much. I did not return the articles, and it has affected me ever since, so much so that I have repaid the amount last year to Mr. Michael Connolly, >; Srr,—in Dr. McLood’s aldress to the Medical Association, he undertook to con- demn a judgment of the County Court which he had never heard nor read, and to pronounce it based on false premises, though he was not present during the trial, except while giving his evidence, and had nv correct means of knowing either the law or facts upon which it was based. | was counsel for the plaintiff, and advised the bringing of the action. My letter was simply written to correct the un- true and inisleading statements made by De. McLeod before the Medical Associa- vion, and a perusal of it and of his reply will enable any intelligent reader to judge where the bad temper is shown. I would advise Dr. McLeod to read Julge Alley’s judgment, and if he can only overcome his animus, he will be convinced that neither his assistance nor mine is required to up- hold it. De. Toombs first sued my client for a medical bill of about $50 for his services in connection with the matter fur which this action of damages was afterwards brought and judgment was given aginst him. Sel- lers then on my advice brought this suit and recovered judgment in damages. Toombs appealed from neither judgment ‘for reasons,” to use the suggestive lan- guage of his friend Dr. McLeod, *‘which I need mot explain here.” W. S. About one hundred persons have united with the Church, and nearly 100 hare been carried to the cemetery. The loss of so many loved ones has been a heavy trial to the pastor, as well as to their relatives and friends. The Church has had missionary enter- prisein this city, as well as elsewhere. Kensington Hall is the fruit of that enter- prise. In addition to the funds required for the support of this Church, this congre- gation paid into other funds in connection with the Methodist Church, doring the past year, the sum of $3,5 Under thesé circumstances, | desire to commend this church to the word of His grace. I wish, also, to extend the same commenda- tion to Other churches in this city. As | think of this church, I have the heartiest good will towards it. Not one discordant word during the three years of my pastor- ate, has marred our intercourse with each other. With philantrophic reforms, generally, I have been in full accord. I have visited nearly every town, village, and district on the Island, 1 have looked upon the Island as beautiful for situatioa and the joy of the Dominion. Its people have displayed an ambition and talent which have enabled them to compete for position with those of larger provinces of the Dominion, and with those of other parts ot the world, In the direction of reform work in this city, 1 am only surry that I have not been able to accomplish more. 1 have not in- termeddled with party politics and none e° you know to which side I lean. I am glad to feet that in leaving you, I have the good will of all denominations «f christians in this city. Of this, I have had, dor- ing the past few days, several touchip § proofs from quarters where I ‘ea ¢ expected them. This has particularly moved my heart. I shall love to carry those pleasant recollections with me wherever I go. I have always enjoyed the friendship, of, the press, for which I return my heartiest. thauiss. In short, I have much enjoyed my. three years pastorate in this city in my inter- course with the members of my own church and congregation and with those of the other religious denominations, And now, brethren, I commead you to God and to the word of | His grace, What better thing can I say to you? No greater blessing can come to you. Keep close to Him, live to His honor and glory, and your future will grand and (pasteve. 1 thank God that as I turn away rom you, I have » door opened to me, When I received an invitation last year, from the City of Ottawa, to become pastor of a church ere, the Quarterly Official Board ef this church allowed me time to obtain the consent of the authorities of our church, and to be transferred to another Conference, showin their readiness as brethren to rmit me do what I thought would be or the best.
