MR. FRASER G TSP KER Tourists Spent 5 Million Dollars In PEI This Year The Montague Junior Board of Trade enjoyed a dinner composed entirely of Island products at the Bison restaurant last night. A del- icious turkey dinner was served to twenty-three members. their wives and guests. Mr. George Fraser. director of the Tourist Bureau. was the guest speaker. Mr. Fraser spoke inter- estingly of the tourist trade and how it affects both the Province and the nation. He pointed out that last year tourists spent 27! million dollars in Canada. and he then plesented a breakdown of this to show how it affected every business in tlie country. stores. restaurants. hotels and resorts. service stations and garages. plum- bers. electricians, furniture deal- are, farmers and many others. These he said. were affected direct- ly. while doctors, dentists and others were affected indirectly. On the provincial level Mr. Fr or said that tourists were coining to the Island in ever increasing munbe -. and this year approxi- mately too.ooo visited P.E.I. and spent upwards of five mlllitai dolars. He spoke oi the many attract- ions offered the tourist on P.!l.I.. fine beaches. lovely scenery. and high standard accommodati "However." he said. "our trans- portation liroblem is possibly the biggest headache being encounter- ed in the expansion of our tourist trade." Her innocent prattle and sunny disposition made her a in to the hearts of her parents who eel their loss most keenly. She is also sur- vived by five sisters and three brothers. Edith. Mildred. Donna. Gaelyne. Brenda. Aubrey. Richard and Donald who will cherish the memory of a baby sister. The funeral which was largely attended. was held from the house. The service was conducted by Rev. D. I. He dsteussed the advantages to the farmers from the tourist trade by purchases made by the tourist resorts. and also of the large amount of wages paid out to local people from the summer's operation. Referring locally to Montague. he said it was an ideal tourist cent- re. with lovely scenery, good . beaches. fine fishing and ample accommodation. He expressed every hope that the tourist indust- ry would develop to a far greater degree to benefit the Island in an even far greater measure than in the past. Mr. Fraser also showed films of Island scenes at the conclusion of his address which was well re- ceived by his listeners. HENRY COFFIN There passed peacefully away at her residence in Mt- Stewart on Oct. 3rd Mrs. W. Henry Coffin in her eighty-second year. She was the daughter of the late Ben C. Douglu and his wife. Jemima Coffin. She was born at Cherry Hill on Aug. Ill. 1874 where she resided before and after her marriage until the death of her husband eight years ago. She took up residence at her daughter's home (Mrs. Roland Jay) Although in failing health for some- ytime and despite all that medical iskill and loving cars could do, the and came with unexpected sudden- nega. The deceased was a person of strong character with a deep love and devotion for her family and a keen interest in community affairs- She was a regular attendant and loyal supporter of the church of which she was a valued choir mem- her during her lifetime.
